DISARM Program Gets 167 Probation Violators Off Streets In April

mikeantonovichDuring the month of April, D.I.S.A.R.M. Officers confiscated 30 guns and 11 rifles, over $24 million in illegal drugs and drug money, and arrested 167 probationers during 1,856 unannounced searches of residences, persons, vehicles, and businesses, announced Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.

Welfare Costs For Children Of Illegal Residents Increase By $3 Million In March

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services reporting that in March 2011, $54 million in welfare benefits ($22 million CalWORKs + $32 million in Food Stamps) were issued to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children in Los Angeles County -- representing an increase of $3 million from March 2010.

Valencia Softball Team Faces El Modena In CIF Quarterfinals

khts_sportsThe Valencia softball team finally knows which team it will play in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Valencia will face El Modena at home today. El Modena beat Etiwanda, the second-seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs, 12-11, on Wednesday.

Valencia is coming off a 1-0 win over Vista Murrieta on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals.

Grapefruits Make For Slippery Commute On Southbound I-5 Wednesday Morning

khts_crime_chpThe breakfast bar was open on the southbound I-5 early Wednesday morning when a truck carrying hundreds of grapefruits flipped onto its side and dumped its load across several lanes of traffic.

According to California Highway Patrol Officer John Lutz, the accident was reported at 1:53 a.m. on the southbound I-5 just north of Parker Road.
