Patti Rasmussen Named Woman Of Year By Assemblyman Smyth

She describes herself as “multifaceted” and enjoys lending her talents to a variety of causes.

Canyon Country Man Arrested For Spousal Abuse After Hillside Pursuit

khts_crimeA Canyon Country man is behind bars this afternoon after assaulting his girlfriend and her mother on Sunday, after deputies chased him up a hillside near Sarabande Drive.

 

Sgt. Michael Konecny of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station said that Thomas Qualey, 55, is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal battery and preventing a person from making a police report.

Shelter To Close In A Week, Homeless To Return To Streets

shelterartThe SCV Emergency Winter Shelter closes its doors for the season on March 15. Many of the shelter’s clients will return to local washes, streets and their cars.

 

 

Historical Books, Documents, Letters Paint History Of SCV

HistoricalLibrary3There’s a new library coming to Santa Clarita, and this one won’t house the latest installment of the “Twilight” melodrama nor be managed by a private company from out of state.  

Instead, the massive archival project undertaken by the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society will contain treasured, historic and out-of-print material related to both the SCV and California.  

Skyhawks To Open Season March 12 At Canyon High Stadium

mhf-logoThe Santa Clarita Skyhawks developmental football team will open their 2011 home schedule on Saturday, March 12 at 7 p.m. when the Skyhawks host the San Diego Thunder at Canyon High School.

 

The Master's College Runner Anthony Pizzo Qualifies For NAIA Nationals

khts_sportsThe Master’s College runner Anthony Pizzo finished fourth in the 5,000 meters in the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton over the weekend and qualified for the NAIA National Championships.

The Canyon High graduate finished in 14 minutes, 18.56 seconds, a school record. It was the fastest time in the 5,000 recorded by a runner in the NAIA this year.

Ammar Moussa, a senior at Arcadia High School, won the 5,000-meter race.

The Kings and the Stars were tied 3-3 at the end of regulation play. During sudden death overtime Dallas scored the winning goal. Final score: Los Angeles Kings-3, Dallas Stars-4

Council Looks Into North Copperhill Annexation On Tuesday

khts_citymatters_scvlogoOn Tuesday, the City Council will look at preparing boundary maps in anticipation of the future annexation of several areas north of Santa Clarita’s boundary between Seco Canyon and Bouquet Canyon Roads.  

The area includes several homes north of Copperhill with a tract east of Haskell Canyon, comprising the “North Copperhill (Saugus)” annexation area.  

Canyon Country Man Robbed When Returning From Work

khts_crimeA Canyon Country man was robbed when he returned home from work in the wee hours of Monday morning.

According to the watch commander at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, the man had arrived at his home in the 27000 block of Fahren Court at 3 a.m.

When he went to open his front door, he was approached by three men, who robbed him of his wallet and cell phone and fled into the early morning darkness.

Cinderblock Walls Stall Festival Growth

towsleystablesfourGOODThe Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, which took up residence in Towsley Canyon in 2010 and hopes to extend hospitality to other performing groups, is looking for a few good men and women, preferably with heavy equipment.

 

Last year’s performance space was relatively close to the entrance to the park, which also put it close to freeway noise that created a ‘Tempest’ in itself.
