Community Says Goodbye To Specialist Rudy Acosta

acostacoffinIt didn’t matter if they knew the soldier personally; thousands of members of the Santa Clarita community showed their appreciation today for Army Specialist Rudy Acosta and his ultimate sacrifice by lining the streets and waving flags.


March 31, 2011 Kings Lose To Canucks 3-1

Thursday, the Los Angeles Kings were in Vancouver to face the Canucks. Left-Winger Kyle Clifford scored the only game goal for the Kings in the first period. Vancouver scored two goals in the second period and one more in the third and went on to win 3 to 1.


The Kings are back home at the Staples Center this Saturday and will take on the Dallas Stars. Catch the game LIVE beginning at 12:30 PM on AM-1220 KHTS.

March 31, 2011 Dodgers Over Giants 2-1

Thursday was opening day for the Dodgers 2011 season. L.A. opened a Four-game homestand against the San Francisco Giants. 23 year old pitcher Clayton Kershaw threw seven scoreless innings, struck out nine batters, allowed four hits with one walk. Giants pitcher - two-time Cy Young winner Tim Linecum threw five strikeouts, allowing five hits and three walks. In the bottom of the eight, Matt Kemp Scored on a double hit by James Loney giving L.A. a 1 to 0 lead. Then in the ninth, Pat Burrrell hit a flyball home run giving the Dodgers their first win of the season and a shutout.

Children Of Illegal Aliens Cost LA County $53 Million In January

AntonovichSupervisor Michael D. Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services on Wednesday reporting that in January, $53 million in welfare benefits ($22 million CalWORKs plus $31 million in Food Stamps) were issued to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children in Los Angeles County. This represents an increase of $3 million from January 2010.  

McGrath Takes Honors For Fourth Consecutive Year

Michael McGrath Elementary School, in the Newhall School District, was selected as a Title I Academic Achievement Award winner for the fourth year in a row, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson announced. McGrath joins 208 other California public schools who are being honored with the award.

Senior Foundation Set For Summer Golf Showdown

Golfball Santa Clarita Valley golfers, get ready for the third annual Summer Showdown. The SCV Senior Center Foundation is inviting golfers of all ages and ability levels to bring their “A” game to the Tournament Players Club, Valencia, on Monday, June 20.

The Showdown, presented by Lockheed Federal Credit Union, has earned a reputation among golfers as a fun event with exciting prizes, great food and cocktails.

Valencia Baseball Team Beats Hart In Extra Innings

khts_sportsThe Valencia baseball team needed extra innings, but beat Hart, 9-8, to stay undefeated in Foothill League play.

Shane Zeile hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Valencia its third win in league. Hart had a one-run lead, 8-7, in the seventh inning. Valencia tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and won the game in the ninth.

Zeile was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two doubles.
