Planning Commission To Look At OVOV Draft, Elsmere Annexation

khts_citymatters_scvlogoOn Tuesday, the Planning Commission will close the public hearing regarding the draft of One Valley One Vision, the 8,000-page update to the City of Santa Clarita’s General Plan and associated Environmental Impact Report, which provides a comprehensive vision of the Santa Clarita Valley in 20 years.  

February 28, 2011 Kings Lose To Red Wings 7-4

Monday, the Kings welcomed the Detroit Red Wings to the Staples Center. Kings Center Michal Hanzus got the first goal of the game durning a power-play putting LA on the board 1-0. Detroit answered with three goals making it 3 to 1 Red Wings at the end of the first period. Detroit scored additional goals in the second and third period with Dustin Brown, Wayne Simmonds and Brad Richardson scoring in the third period as well. Detroit went on to win 7 to 4.

Hart District Moves Ahead With EIR Plans For Castaic High

hartdistlogoBLACKThe William S. Hart District is moving ahead with its plans to build Castaic High School on the proposed Romero Canyon site as it has issued official paperwork that will lead to the Environmental Impact Report required for building.

On February 24, the district issued a Notice of Preparation for the Draft EIR to analyze potential environmental impacts that may result from the project.

georgerunnerBoard of Equalization Member Senator George Runner today warned that Amazon will terminate its relationships with more than 10,000 California-based affiliate businesses if pending legislation becomes law.

“In no uncertain terms, Amazon has made it clear to me that the checks they send Californians will be cut off overnight if pending legislation aimed at regulating their operations becomes law,” said Runner.

This routine involves members of the public calling the Sheriff’s Department and asking to speak to a specific deputy or sergeant who had allegedly just called them.

Hart District Project Prom Begins Collection Drive

hartdistlogoREDThe Hart School District, in partnership with the Assistance League of Santa Clarita, are working together to help students in need make the dream of attending prom a reality. Project Prom, now in its second year, is a District-wide program that will serve up to 1,000 students this year by providing prom dresses, suits or tux rental, shoes, jewelry and other accessories. A collection drive is under way with a need for additional prom dresses.

COC Women's Basketball Team Moves On In Southern California Regionals

khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons women’s basketball team took the first step toward a state championship. COC beat Mt. San Jacinto College, 88-73, in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional playoffs. COC had a bye in the first round.

Dominique Turner led the seventh-seeded Cougars with 21 points and seven assists. Beverly Weaver dropped in 19 points off the bench for COC.

Hall Of Famer Duke Snider Dies At 84, Dodgers Mourn Passing

duke1Dodger Hall of Fame outfielder Duke Snider passed away this morning at the age of 84 at the Valle Vista Convalescent Hospital in Escondido, California.

Born Edwin Donald Snider in Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 19, 1926, Snider was among the game’s most feared hitters during his 16 seasons with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers (1947-1962), playing on a pair of World Championship teams (1955 and 1959) and in six World Series overall.
