Hometown Recipes: Oven Baked Sweet Potato Fries

The last of our Christmas holiday house guests departed yesterday in the early afternoon. My family and I were hungry as it was lunch time, but what to eat? The refrigerator was full of various left-over’s none of which sounded appetizing. I had five small sweet potatoes in the pantry and we all agreed that some sweet potato fries and a salad would be the perfect mid day meal.

Organic Ground Beef Recalled Over E.coli Fears

khts_recallsA California company has recalled 34,373 pounds of organic ground beef over fears of E. coli contamination.

First Class Foods Inc. of Hawthorne said recalled packages were produced on December 7 and December 16. They have "EST. 18895" printed on them, federal officials said.

Products were shipped to California, New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, Wisconsin and Washington.

Henry Mayo Earns National Medal For Organ Donation Rates

Artists' Association Inducts New President

Santa Clarita Artists’ Association recently inducted a new president, Zony Gordon, to lead members through another season of adventures in art, comradeship, and in pursuit of making visual art visible in Santa Clarita.  

"I am very pleased to turn over the presidency to Zony Gordon, who has been serving as an active Vice President throughout the year. With her organizational and communication skills, she has done a superb job as our Art Classic Executive Chair. Zony has been my right arm and I will continue to support her presidency," said outgoing president Olga Kaczmar.

COC Holiday Jazz Concert Take Stage Friday Night

cocjazzStart the holiday season in style at the 2011 Holiday Jazz Concert, presented by the College of the Canyons Music Department.

Featuring an array of classic holiday tunes and crowd favorites, the concert will feature performances by the two COC Jazz Combo bands, as well as the COC Studio Jazz Ensemble, which will perform under the direction of COC music director KC Manji.

Valencia Boys Basketball Team Finishes In Fourth Place In Oaks Christian Tournament

The Valencia boys basketball team lost to Sacramento, 66-58, in the third-place game of the Oaks Christian Holiday Classic.

Valencia was seeded 15th in the 32-team tournament and reached the semifinals before losing to Loyola.

Valencia's Lonnie Jackson scored 24 points against Sacramento and earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
