2010rainstorm_1Hope everyone enjoyed the few sunny days we got for Christmas, because another Pacific storm is scheduled to blow into Southwest California Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Earthquake In Castaic Measures 3.6

seismogramAn earthquake measuring 3.6 in magnitude was reported early this morning above Castaic.

According to reports from CalTech that were verified by seismologists, the quake occurred at 12:36 a.m. and was centered 4 miles west southwest of Castaic Lake dam, 12 miles below the surface.

The epicenter was 10 miles northwest of Valencia and 11 miles northwest of Saugus.

Time To Recycle Those Christmas Trees

Christmas_TreeThe City of Santa Clarita is offering free curbside Christmas tree recycling until January 8, 2011 for all single-family and multi-family residents. Single-family residents should place their trees at the curb on their regular trash collection day and multi-family residents should contact their building manager to see if there is a designated area for the trees. All recycled trees are used as soil amendment, compost, or bagged for mulch.

Valencia Boys Basketball Team Downs Concord De La Salle

khts_sportsThe Valencia boys basketball team pulled off a bit of a stunner in the Oaks Christian Holiday Classic.

Valencia beat Concord De La Salle, 70-63, in the opening round of the tournament and handed the team from Northern California its first loss of the season.

Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson scored 35 points. It sets up a match-up between Valencia and Alemany in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

December 27 2010: Kings Shutdown Sharks 4-0

Monday, the Los Angeles Kings faced the Sharks in San Jose. The game remained tied 0 to 0 at the end of the 2nd period. In the 3rd, the Kings came alive scoring 4 goals and defeated San Jose making it their fourth win in a row. The final score was 4 to 0.
