One Lot Of Cilantro Recalled For Contamination

khts_recallsPablo’s Produce, Inc. of Oxnard is voluntarily recalling one lot of cilantro because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The company is working with Health officials to inform consumers of this recall, and no illnesses have been reported to date.


Canyon Boys Basketball Team Off To Winning Start In Canyon Classic

khts_sportsThe Canyon High boys basketball team lost a key player, but won its game against Poly of Sun Valley, 66-48, in the Canyon Classic tournament.

Clay Kasdorf, Canyon’s top scorer, injured his ankle in the first quarter against Poly and had to sit out the rest of the game.

Coley Apsay and Darnel Haggerty picked up their injured teammate. Apsay scored 20 points, hitting three 3-pointers, and Haggerty had 18 points and eight rebounds.

Help Local Family Who Lost Home In Fire

Follett3Several community members and organizations are helping the Follett family, who lost their Newhall home and nearly all their possessions in a fire over Thanksgiving weekend.  

Husband Tony, wife Marcela, 8-year-old daughter Samantha and 5-year-old son Luke are currently staying with a family member in Saugus, but they need help for the long-term.

Static_ViewYou may have seen extravagant Christmas light displays portrayed in movies or television, but the Maddux family of Newhall has created a real display that is putting Christmas light lovers in awe.

On Dec. 31 of last year, Jim Maddux and his three sons began preparing for this years Christmas light display.

McGrath School Nominated For Blue Ribbon Status

blue-ribbonOfficials at the Newhall School District were pleased to learn that McGrath Elementary School is a finalist for honors as a National Blue Ribbon School.

If the designation is awarded, McGrath would join other Newhall District honorees, including Newhall, Stevenson Ranch and Wiley Canyon Elementary Schools.

McKeon Named New Chair Of House Armed Services Committee

Howard P. “Buck” McKeon as the next Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Armed Services.  McKeon, currently the committee’s Ranking Member, will assume the chairmanship when the 112th Congress convenes in January.


Antonovich Takes On Raves And Reforms

mikeantonovichDuring Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, newly-minted County Mayor Mike Antonovich addressed the problems of rave parties and proposed an extensive reform package for the County’s child welfare system.



Antonovich proposed an amendment to the County Code establishing a zero-tolerance policy on drugs for rave music festivals that was passed unanimously by the board.
