Agency Celebrates Acquisition Of 243 Acres Of Open Space

Rodda1The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) joined the City of Santa Clarita yesterday in celebrating the acquisition of 243 acres of coveted Rim of the Valley Corridor open space in Agua Dulce Canyon south of State Route 14. The MRCA contributed $750,000 of the total $1,290,000 purchase price in Proposition 84 funds granted by the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy (RMC).

West Ranch Girls Basketball Team Undefeated To Start Season

khts_sportsThe West Ranch girls basketball team ran their record to 6-0 with a 54-44 win over Chaminade in the Gold Coast Tournament at Rio Mesa High School.

Michele Arima scored 13 points and led three West Ranch girls who scored in double figures. Alexus Bryant had 11 points and Whitney Branham scored 10 for West Ranch.

Next up for West Ranch is Channel Islands in the Gold Coast Tournament tonight.

December 9, 2010: Kings Beat Calgary Flames 2-1

Tonight, at Staples Center, the Los Angeles Kings were victorious against the Calgary Flames. The Kings' 19 year old Kyle Clifford scored his first NHL goal and had his first NHL fight. A big night for the young man. Final score: L.A.Kings-2, Calgary Flames-1

Help Shape Your Libraries At Tonight’s Meeting

bookpicThe Citizens Public Library Advisory Committee will have its first meeting tonight at 6 p.m. at City Hall.  

The meeting is open to the public.  

The committee was announced in October with the intent to assist the City of Santa Clarita in transitioning from the County of Los Public Library into the Santa Clarita Public Library, which will become official on July 1 next year.  

Gentle Barn Rescues 10 Dogs From Ohio Animal Shelter

Ohio_dog_through_fenceRecently, Ellie and Jay Weiner, Presidents of The Gentle Barn, were shocked to hear about a mass euthanasia that took place at a dilapidated dog shelter in Cadiz, Ohio.

Yesterday, Jay took the first flight out to Ohio, rented a van, and bought the necessary supplies to save as many dogs as he could. All dogs were euthanized except for 10.

Hollywood History Subject Of January Classes At Society

moderntimesIf you’ve ever wanted to visit the sites where Hollywood history was made and some of your favorite TV shows have been shot, the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is promoting a new series of seminars by historian E. J. Stephens that can fulfill that wish.


The Newhallywood On Location: History of Film/TV in the SCV class will be taught on four Saturdays in January, beginning on January 8, 2011.

Jenkins To Head COC Board For 2011

COClogoCollege of the Canyons Trustee Michele Jenkins assumed the presidency of the Santa Clarita Community College District Board after her election by fellow board members Wednesday, during their regular meeting.


Other board officers elected include Vice President Michael Berger, Clerk Joan MacGregor; Trustees Bruce Fortine and Scott Wilk serve as members of the board. Nick Onyshko serves as the Student Trustee and Dr. Dianne Van Hook is Secretary/Parliamentarian.
