Lane Closure On Southbound Railroad Avenue Planned For January 4

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita is informing residents that a southbound lane of Railroad Avenue between 12th Street and Lyons Avenue will be closed from 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4. The lane closure is being done to allow for the overlaying of asphalt pavement to improve the road for drivers. Signs will be posted along the route to indicate traffic delays.  

Hart, Saugus Boys Basketball Teams Will Play For Hart Tournament Title

khts_sportsThe Hart and Saugus boys basketball teams will meet in the championship game of the Hart Holiday Classic tonight at Hart High School.

Saugus beat Grant, 60-53, to earn a spot in the championship game.

Brad Buchignani scored 15 points, all on 3-pointers, to lead Saugus. Jeremy Gatewood had 12 points for Saugus.

Hart beat Quartz Hill, 78-74, in overtime to advance to the championship game of the tournament.

Updated: Rough Weather Forces CHP Assistance Over Grapevine

Updated: Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:25 p.m.

According to the CHP, normal patrol conditions have resumed in the area.

Rough weather is making it tough going over the Grapevine on the I-5 Freeway. CHP patrol cars have been providing extra lighting for vehicles traveling north of Santa Clarita over the Grapevine toward Bakersfield.

Final Score: Los Angeles Kings-3, Phoenix Coyotes-6

Local Schools Benefit From Microsoft Settlement

jackoconnellState Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell today announced 879 local educational agencies and 7,413 schools will receive more than $25 million for technology purchases, including nearly $75 thousand for the Hart District and more than $27 thousand for the Newhall, Saugus and Sulphur Springs elementary school districts.

Urgent Wind Warning Issued For Santa Clarita Valley

storm011810.15.useThe National Weather Service has issued an urgent wind warning, cautioning residents about gusty winds expected Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

A fast-moving frontal system is causing windy conditions in the Antelope Valley that will move to the northwest. The focus of the strongest winds are expected in the I-5 corridor, the valleys of Los Angeles County and western Antelope Valley.

They know that most of us know better than to drink and drive, but for the few folks who haven’t quite got the message, the officers would like to have a word with them.

City To Conduct Traffic Circulation Improvement Project

khts_inthecommunityThe City of Santa Clarita will conduct a Traffic Circulation Improvement Project on Bouquet Canyon Road at Newhall Ranch Road beginning Monday, January 3. Construction work and lane closures will be conducted at night to avoid disrupting busy daytime travel. Construction is expected to continue through February 10.

Valencia Boys Basketball Team Reaches Semifinals Of Oaks Christian Holiday Classic

khts_sportsThe Valencia boys basketball team won another tough game in the Oaks Christian Holiday Classic to reach the semifinals of the tournament.

Valencia beat Alemany, 66-64 in overtime, and will play Loyola for a chance to go to the championship game.

Quincy Quintero hit the game-winner, hitting a shot under the basket with seven seconds left in the overtime period.
