CHP Motor Officer Involved In Morning Crash

chplogoA morning rush-hour crash involving a California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer closed a portion of The Old Road just south of Rye Canyon Road around 5:30 a.m.

Officer Eric Bejar, 45, was riding his 1994 BMW CHP motorcycle northbound on The Old Road and was stopped behind a 1995 International flatbed truck being driven by Guillermo Rocha, 22, of Oxnard waiting for the light to turn green.

Warning Labels To Get Graphic On Cigarette Packs

deadguyonpackWarning: cigarette packages are about to get a lot more truthful, in a very graphic way.

After posting the same text warning on the side of cigarette packages (“Surgeon General’s Warning: Quitting smoking now greatly reduces serious risks to your health”) for the last two decades, the government is stepping in and requiring stronger language and graphics, including color pictures of diseased lungs and dead bodies.

Valencia, Saugus Girls Volleyball Teams Win CIF First Round Playoff Matches

khts_sportsTwo girls volleyball teams from the Foothill League advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs. One team was eliminated.

The Valencia girls had an easy time in their first round Southern Section Division 1-A match, sweeping visiting Estancia in three games.

Alexa Schmidt and Emily Ellias each had seven kills to lead Valencia.

After two and a half days of deliberation, a Superior Court jury deemed that Michael Dean Stephens is guilty of the murder of Josh Pipho (pictured at right) during a bloody altercation November 24, 2007 in Stevenson Ranch.

 

Attempted Kidnapping Reported Near McGrath School

khts_crime_genericThe Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station is investigating a reported incident of attempted kidnapping that occurred this morning near Dockweiler Drive and Valle Del Oro, Newhall.

A Newhall resident, male age 10, reported that he was walking to J. Michael McGrath Elementary School, Newhall, when he saw a man sitting in a parked car near the same curb line of the sidewalk he was walking on.

Public Invited To Elsmere Canyon Open Space Dedication

In October, the City finalized its purchase of 842 acres of the greenbelt space and now officials want to show it off.
