Undefeated Canyon Football Team Faces Valencia Tonight

khts_sportsThe Foothill League championship could be decided in football tonight. A resurgent Canyon team hosts Valencia, the reigning Foothill League champions, tonight at Canyon High School.

Canyon is undefeated at 6-0 and is coming off a 21-14 win against Saugus in the Foothill League opener last week.

Valencia is 5-1 and thumped West Ranch, 55-28, in its league opener.

Proposed Chloride Solution Committee Would Be A Diverse Group

A letter addressed Tuesday by a local water retailer to the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District calls for a new committee that would find a solution to the ongoing chloride problem.

New Health Center Opens In Canyon Country

NEVHCribbondropThe overcast skies couldn’t put a damper on the excitement in the air as the finishing touches were put on the Santa Clarita Health Center at the corner of Sierra Highway and Soledad Canyon Road.

Celebrants gathered under a white tent for short speeches and presentations before going in to the spacious 7,500 square-foot clinic, the newest facility operated by Northeast Valley Health Corporation.

Critically Acclaimed Opera Composed By COC Professor Dr. Daniel Catán

catanCollege of the Canyons professor Dr. Daniel Catán is musical composer of the critically acclaimed Spanish opera “Il Postino” that debuted September 23, in Los Angeles.

When composing music, Catán says that he looks for a certain character that would make a wonderful story. This may reflect how Catán came up with much of the musical composition for “Il Postino.”

“I try to capture the way the characters move and breathe,” said Catán, “The essence rather than the atmosphere.”

Valencia Girls Volleyball Team Beats Hart In Five

khts_sportsThe Valencia girls volleyball team bounced back after losing its first Foothill League match of the season.

Valencia beat Hart in five games a night after losing to West Ranch in five games.

Valencia won the first two games of the match, but Hart rallied to win the next two. In the fifth game, Valencia won, 15-11.

Serena LeDuff had a match-high 20 kills for Valencia. Teammate Emily Elias had 18 kills and setter Carly Carapella had 55 assists.
