City Council Holds Off On Naming Bridge, Blocking New Commercial Site

khts_citymatters_scvlogoTwo agenda items dominated Tuesday’s City Council meeting, one concerning the naming of a bridge on the Cross Valley Connector, and the other a development project off Sierra Highway, just before entering Newhall.  

Brush Fire Forces School Evacuation

khts_fireengine5One firefighter was slightly injured and an elementary school was evacuated due to a small brush fire on the southbound I-5 just north of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic.

The fire was reported at 12:30 p.m. and prompted a full brush response, including dozers and aircraft. Knockdown was declared at 1:45 p.m.

Free Flu Shots Offered At COC, NEVHC Clinics

flushotWith flu season underway, several health care providers and community resources are teaming up to give free flu vaccines to residents in October and November.

The City of Santa Clarita and College of the Canyons are teaming up for a “walk through” flu vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, October 29 (until vaccine runs out).

Saugus Boys, Girls Cross Country Teams Win At Mt. SAC Invitational

khts_sportsThe Saugus boys cross country team won the Division II varsity race at the 63rd Mt. San Antonio College Invitational over the weekend.

A.J. Herbert was the top runner for Saugus, finishing third and covering the course in 15 minutes, 14 seconds. Teammates Robert Pion was fifth and Logan Smith was seventh, giving the Saugus boys three runners in the top 10.

October 25 2010 - Kings Beat Wild In Shootout

The Los Angeles Kings beat the Minnesota Wild in a shootout 3-2. Both goals in regulation were scored  by Kopitar and Stoll, both during powerplays. Library Group Seeks Temporary Restraining Order To Halt Data Access

bookpicThe nonprofit group Save Our Library is pursuing a temporary restraining order hoping to stall the City of Santa Clarita from fully executing a contract with Library Systems and Services, the company primed to operate the city’s three libraries come July 1 of next year.  

According to Don Ricketts, the attorney representing Save Our Library, the motion will be heard sometime this week at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Chatsworth.
