    September 11 Tribute Events Around The City

    CNN911scrnAs the nation commemorates the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, several public events are planned to honor the fallen and their survivors.

     

     

     

    10 a.m. Santa Clarita 9/11 Memorial at Historic Veterans Plaza at Market and Walnut Streets in Newhall.

    Vehicle Burglary Suspects Arrested In Simi Valley

    khts_crime_genericAfter a two-month long investigation, a team of detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley station tracked down and arrested suspects in a rash of vehicle burglaries from the parking lot of 24 Hour Fitness locations.

    The pair, one man and one woman, whose identities have not been released, were arrested in Simi Valley on Wednesday.

    Vin Scully’s Return

    Vin Scully, Hall of Fame announcer and long-time voice of the Dodgers, has decided to return to the broadcast booth for the 2011 season, his 62nd as the Dodgers broadcaster.

    His 61 years of service makes him the longest tenured sports broadcaster in baseball history. Scully claims good health and a strong love for the game are what helped him make his decision.

    CHP Volunteers Raise Money For Acton Family

    khts_givingbackNearly $12,000 was raised and more donations are coming in after the California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Area held a fund-raising car wash for the Darnell Family, who lost their mother and one of the children in a tragic accident August 30.

    Newhall Land Donates Pickup Truck To Senior Center

    9_9_SeniorCenter_WD__0036After a June break-in that left the Senior Center’s Home Delivered Meals program short two vehicles, volunteers at the SCV Senior Center made sure that meal service didn’t stop. Two battered sedans, both Saturns, take their place in the parking lot on Market Street, waiting to bring nutrition and the human touch to clients who look forward to the weekday visits.

    Cigarette Bandit Sought By Deputies

    khts_crimeThe Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in an early morning burglary at the CVS drug store at 26550 Bouquet Canyon Road in Saugus on Sunday, August 29.

    The suspect, pictured here, threw a trash can lid through the front window of the store to gain entrance and stole numerous cartons of cigarettes.

    Service Academy Information Night At COC

    buckmckeonOn Thursday,representatives for Congressman Buck McKeon will be hosting a Service Academy Information Night at 7 p.m. at the College of the Canyons.

    This informational event is open to all residents in California’s 25th Congressional District between their freshman year in high school and 21 years of age.
