One Valley, One Vision Meeting Set In October

khts_citymatters_scvlogoOn October 5, a public hearing will be conducted by the City of Santa Clarita Planning Commission to introduce the One Valley One Vision (OVOV) General Plan and the Draft Program Environmental Impact Report. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, which are located on the first floor of 23920 Valencia Boulevard.

September 10 2010: Dodgers Beat Astros 4-2


The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 4-2 tonight in extra innings. The Astros defense fell apart in the top of the 11th inning, allowing the Dodgers to score two runs off of a Jay Gibbons homerun that scored Matt Kemp. Tune in tomorrow, Saturday September 11th, at 3:30 pm as the Dodgers take on the Astros for game 3 of 4 on your Hometown Station KHTS AM-1220.


Valencia Sex Offender Behind Bars For Weapons Possession

khts_crimeAn anonymous tip led deputies to a cache of weapons held by a convicted sex offender subject to periodic probation checks.

Deputies went to the home of Tyler Lee Ferguson in the 24000 block of Master Cup Way in Valencia, where they found Ferguson in possession of five guns, a violation of his probation.

Santa Clarita Deputy Receives Meritorious Conduct Medal

Deputy_Mark_L._WoodOn Wednesday, September 8, Sheriff Lee Baca presented 29 members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department with the Department’s highest honors during the Medal of Valor and Meritorious Conduct Awards Ceremony. The Valor and Meritorious Conduct medals are awarded annually to those who have performed acts of great bravery or heroism, above and beyond the call of duty, to save the lives of others while potentially placing their own lives at risk.

Education Funding Saved By Emergency Measures

jackoconnellState Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell today thanked Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado, who is acting governor while Schwarzenegger is in Asia, for signing into law Senate Bill (SB) 847 and Assembly Bill (AB) 185. The two bills authorize the state to distribute federal education funds and take effect immediately.


Crime Down In Sheriff's Patrol Areas

khts_crime_genericCrime is down in several areas patrolled by the L.A. County Sheriff's Department, according to analysis of recent statistics.

As of August 31, preliminary crime data shows that criminal homicides in Sheriff’s patrol areas have decreased by 10.2 percent, compared to the same year-to-date period last year (146 homicides last year compared to 132 this year).

Normally, I look for Prickly Pear Cactus in the spring; their cheerful yellow flowers are quite striking in May and June.  But last weekend, I got to see the fruits of their labors - pear-shaped, purplish-red fruit known as “Tunas”.
