Suspect In 2009 Castaic Sexual Assault Extradited, Booked At SCV Sheriff's Station

khts_crimeEugene Lee Upshaw, the man suspected in the brutal sexual assault of a woman in Castaic on August 20, 2009, is in custody at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

Upshaw was booked at the station last night at 9:00 p.m. following extradition from New York after his arrest by the Steuben County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, August 26, 2010, one year and six days after the crime.

It is true. Billy Yergensen and wife Melissa Yergensen are throwing a grand opening for their record store, Rock Candy Music and More.

The store, which has been open for a month, is the spot for vinyl, new and used CD’s and DVD’s, retro candy, jewelry, candles, posters, and more and is also the place for musicians and artists to show off their talents.

Dodgers Manager Torre Steps Down, Mattingly Next In Line

dodgerslogoThe Los Angeles Dodgers announced today that former American League MVP Don Mattingly has been named the Dodger manager for the 2011 season and that Joe Torre has stepped aside from the position. Mattingly becomes the ninth manager in Los Angeles Dodger history and 27th in franchise history while Torre is expected to take time to determine his plans for 2011.      

Valencia's Steven Manfro Scores 5 TDs Against Birmingham

khts_sportsThe Valencia football team got another huge game from running back Steven Manfro in a 47-6 win over Birmingham last night.

Manfro racked up 337 total yards and scored five touchdowns in his team’s second win of the season. Valencia had a 40-0 lead at halftime and the defense held Birmingham to under 100 yards on offense.

Fire Near Castaic Burns 25 Acres

khts_fireengine5At approximately 5 a.m., a 25-acre brush fire broke out just off the Northbound I-5 at Templin Highway, north of Castaic.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the fire was caused when a driver pulled over the side of the road due to engine trouble.

The fire was knocked down by 9 a.m. and completely contained by the early afternoon.
