City To Host Enterprise Zone Workshop

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita will host a free Enterprise Zone Breakfast Workshop on Wednesday, August 25. This informational workshop will include a complimentary continental breakfast and provide local businesses with information on how to reduce their state income taxes. Representatives from the city’s Economic Development Division will facilitate the program which will feature keynote speaker Max Shanker from The Tax Credit Company.

Mes Amies Will Host Game Night

khts_inthecommunity2The Betty Ferguson Foundation’s (BFF) Mes Amies womens’ group will be winding down after the Woman Of Honor (WOH) Dinner with a fun and games at 7:00 p.m. on September 21.

Mes Amies (My Friends) is one of BFF’s many programs fulfilling its mission “To Train, Develop and Empower Women and Youth to be a Vital Force in Society.” Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the BFF offices.

Brush Fire In Largo Vista Area

khts_brushfireA Forest Service firefighter was injured after falling from a 50-foot wall while fighting a brush fire just north of Big Pines Highway.

The fire has burned more than 110 acres in the incident that started shortly after 3 p.m. today. The fire, which is completely in Angeles National Forest territory, is now 100 percent contained and firefighters have a line around the burn area.

Man Shocked During Copper Wire Theft Attempt

Major Crimes Decrease In City Limits In First Part Of 2010

Runner's Blue Alert Bill Goes To Governor's Desk

Sen. George Runner, author of Senate Bill 839, known as “Blue Alert,” announced Thursday that the bill has passed the Senate and is now headed to the Governor’s office where it’s expected to be signed into law.

Deadline Nears for Measure SA Oversight Committee Applications

khts_schools_chalkboardThe deadline is Friday, August 27, for citizens interested in filling vacancies on the Hart School District’s Measure SA Citizens’ Oversight Committee.

In November 2008, voters passed Measure SA, which sent $300 million to the Hart School District to build and maintain high schools in the Santa Clarita Valley. For example, some of this money will be used to construct the new high school in Castaic.

West Nile Activity Up In Santa Clarita, San Fernando Valleys

The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District has confirmed another West Nile virus positive dead bird and nine additional West Nile positive mosquito samples, bringing the District’s total to 25 positive mosquito samples and 11 positive dead birds this year.
