    Sonic Booms Possible During NORAD Testing

    khts_breakingnews2NORAD will be doing air response testing this morning in the Fresno and Los Angeles area between 9 and 11 a.m., with activity focused on the Palmdale area. Fighter jets may be seen in the sky and in close proximity to commercial airlines and at low altitudes during this testing.

    More than 1,100 acres have burned in a brush fire in Lebec, where homes are threatened in the area near the I-5. The fire started shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the Lebec Road area of Kern County.

    Former Canyon Football Coach Harry Welch Diagnosed With Cancer

    sportscanyonHarry Welch, who coached Canyon High School to a state football championship in 2006, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

    Welch, who was to begin his first season as coach of the Santa Margarita High School football team in Orange County, informed his players of his condition on Monday. Santa Margarita’s first game is Sept. 3 against Diamond Ranch of Pomona.

    The Dodgers hitting was on target as they beat the Brewers Tuesday night. A Matt Kemp home run put the Dodgers up by 2 runs at the top of the 2nd inning. Then Rod Barajas hit a 3 run home run at the top of the 6th inning to seal the deal. The final score was 5-3.     Hart District Students Improve Passing Rate On CAHSEE

Hart Union High School District passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) on their first try, according to figures released today by the California Department of Education. Like the state, students in the Hart District have made small gains in the number of students who pass the test when they take it the first time, compared to last year.

    Chelsea's Law One Step Closer To Approval

    California_State_CapitolChelsea’s Law, Assembly Bill 1844, passed through the California State Senate today by a unanimous vote. The measure, authored by Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, (R-San Diego), in partnership with the family of Chelsea King, will better protect California children from violent sexual predators.     City Kicks Off Annual September Food Drive

During the entire month of September, Santa Clarita residents are invited to drop off non-perishable food items to designated locations across the City to be donated directly to the SCV Food Pantry.

     

    Brush Fire Reported At Pearblossom And Sierra

    khts_brushfireA brush fire has been reported at Sierra Highway and Small Road, near Pearblossom Highway. Fire officials are on the scene and reporting a quarter-acre has burned in light brush.

     

     

    Firefighters were able to hold the damage to the quarter acre and had knockdown on the fire around 3 p.m.
