NORAD will be doing air response testing this morning in the Fresno and Los Angeles area between 9 and 11 a.m., with activity focused on the Palmdale area. Fighter jets may be seen in the sky and in close proximity to commercial airlines and at low altitudes during this testing.

Harry Welch, who coached Canyon High School to a state football championship in 2006, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Welch, who was to begin his first season as coach of the Santa Margarita High School football team in Orange County, informed his players of his condition on Monday. Santa Margarita’s first game is Sept. 3 against Diamond Ranch of Pomona.

More than 90 percent of tenth graders in the William S. Hart Union High School District passed the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) on their first try, according to figures released today by the California Department of Education. Like the state, students in the Hart District have made small gains in the number of students who pass the test when they take it the first time, compared to last year.
