UPDATED TRAFFIC ALERT: Northbound 14 Freeway Closed Due To Vehicle Fire

Caltrans is in the process of cleaning up the scene of a traffic collision on the northbound 14 and Sand Canyon Road where a car carrier loaded with BMWs crashed into a trash truck and burned. They estimate the northbound lanes of the freeway will be open shortly after 5:30 p.m.

City Council Votes To Seize Control Of Libraries From County

8_25_Library_WD__0062After nearly four hours of presentations and public comments, the City Council of Santa Clarita voted 4-1 on Tuesday to withdraw from the County of Los Angeles Public Library system and establish an independent municipal library, placing both library ownership and managerial decisions within the City's control.

Rotary Club Honors Fallen Soldiers

flagOn Wednesday morning, the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club held a dedication service in honor of nine local fallen soldiers at its garden located near the George Caravalho Sports complex on Centre Pointe Parkway.

Friends and family members of the soldiers joined Rotary members in prayer and the National Anthem in a quiet ceremony under the shade.

Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Expands Intensive Care Unit

khts_healthRenovations to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit are nearing completion which will allow the hospital to better provide for their critically ill and injured patients.

The $9 million renovation expanded the unit by 9,660 square feet, providing six more private ICU beds and a comfortable visitor’s lounge.

Local Business Owner Fills Vacated Seat On Santa Clarita Planning Commission

khts_citymatters_scvlogoDuring Tuesday’s City Council meeting, Mayor Pro-tem Marsha McLean appointed business owner Lisa Eichman to the Planning Commission. Diane Trautman, who had served on the Commission since 2002, was not reappointed.  

McLean praised Eichman’s community efforts and business experience. Eichman co-owns Gymnastics Unlimited and is an enrolled agent with the tax services firm Eichman and Eichman.  

Traffic Signal Funded At Via Princessa And Swan Lake

Max Homa Makes Cut In U.S. Golf Association's Amateur Championship

khts_sportsValencia High graduate Max Homa made the cut for the U.S. Golf Association’s Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.

Homa, a sophomore at UC Berkeley, shot a 4-over par 76 in the second round of the tournament. He is 2-over par after the first two days of the Amateur Championship and is tied for 24th place with nine players.
