The Master’s College men’s soccer team is off to a bit of a rocky start. The No. 2 ranked team in the NAIA lost its season opener, 2-1, to Westminster in Salt Lake City.
The Master’s College had a 1-0 lead in the first half. Jake Marchesani scored an unassisted goal in the 25th minute.
Westminster tied the game in the 64th minute with Nic Duncan scoring an unassisted goal.
The City of Santa Clarita and the Emergency Network of Los Angeles are conducting a free half-day disaster plan training for faith based and non-profit organizations. The training will be held on September 21 from 8:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at the City of Santa Clarita Activities Center.

For all 10 people that read my movie reviews, you are aware that aside from being a colossal movie nerd, my dorkiness applies to sports as well. Whether they are apt or not, I inexplicably try to weave in as many sports references as I can. Since there are no compelling movies to review until next week I figured I’d take a vacation from reviewing movies and give you an NFL preview column. 
Now that students across the William S. Hart School District have become accustomed to back-to-school life, it is time for their parents to share the school experience. Back-to-school night programs in the Hart District have begun and will continue through September 29 at different high schools, junior highs and charter schools in the district.

The Zonta club of Santa Clarita Valley is sponsoring a “Workplace Success” workshop from 9 a.m. to 1p.m. on Saturday at the Valencia Library. This free “LifeForward” event will answer questions including what makes a “good employee” an “outstanding” employee, what is appropriate business attire, and what an employee can expect from the company.
