    Updated: Funds Pumped Into Historic Refinery's Restoration

    After years of lobbying from members of the Santa Clarita Historical Society, restoration of the historic Pioneer Oil Refinery in Newhall appears imminent after receiving $40,000 from the City.  

    The funding comes courtesy of Hank Arklin, who owns the property surrounding the refinery – property that is also part of the proposed “Needham Ranch” business park.  

    Former Assemblyman Keith Richman Dies

    richmanheadshotFormer Assemblyman and long-time healthcare advocate Keith Richman died Friday night at UCLA Medical Center with his wife, Suzan and family at his side, after an extended battle with brain cancer. A resident of the San Fernando Valley, he was an active physician and philanthropist.

    The Dodgers hold on to their lead as they defeat the Padres Tuesday night. Two RBI's at the bottom of the 2nd inning and excellent pitching by Ted Lilly was just enough to win it for for Dodgers. They have snapped the six game losing streak. The final score was 2-1.     Local Teen To Hold Fund Raising Garage Sale To Help Orphans In Belize

    khts_givingback18-year-old Brandon Maddux of Newhall is hoping to do some remarkable things in the country of Belize, but he needs our help. On August 14, Maddux will be holding a garage sale to raise funds so he and 12 others can travel to the country of Belize and interact and keep company the orphaned children at the Kings Children Home, a non-profit organization based in Belize that is dedicated to helping provide residential care to children in need.

    UPDATE: Crown Fire 100 Percent Contained, Roads Open

    The Crown Fire is now 100 percent contained, all evacuations have been lifted and roads are open in the burn areas.

    The fire burned 13,918 acres in Acton and Leona Valley/North Palmdale and fire crews remain on scene to treat any hot spot and perform mop up operations.

    August Is Purple Ribbon Month

    kaitDigitalBillboardIf you see a California Highway Patrol (CHP) car with a purple ribbon flying from its antenna, you might wonder “Why?”  The answer: August is “Purple Ribbon Month” to raise awareness for the “Unattended Child in a Motor Vehicle Act,” also known as “Kaitlyn’s Law.”

    As the summer heat continues, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has a warning for the motoring public: Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle.

    Food Pantry Seeks Donations

    scvfoodpantry_2A SCV Food Pantry spokesperson reported that the Pantry has run low on hygiene products.  They are in need of bar soap and shampoos.

    Also high on their “wish list” are canned fruits, canned meats, canned tomatoes, canned beans, peanut butter, and toothbrushes.
