Tommy Lasorda is not only the face of the Dodgers franchise, but easily recognized by baseball fans and players.

Born Thomas Charles Lasorda on Sept. 22, 1927, in Norristown, Penn., he was a pitcher and former Dodgers manager. After his career on the field with the team, he became the Vice President of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He remains in the Dodgers front office as Special Advisor to the Chairman.

The Hart PONY Mustang baseball team lost its first game, 5-4, to Joliet, Ill., in the World Series in Irving, Texas.

Hart had a 4-0 lead, but Joliet scored four runs in the fourth inning to tie the game. Joliet then plated the game-winning run in the sixth inning.

Noah Cardenas and Caden Miller each had two hits for Hart.

UPDATED 3:32 P.M. WEDNESDAY: All but one lane is clear on the northbound I-5 after a mid-day brush fire forced the freeway's closure to fight the flames that encroached on the freeway.

The freeway and nearby Old Road were used to accomodate fire equipment being used on the two-acre brush fire just south of Calgrove.

Firefighters have announced they have knockdown as of 12:34 p.m.

Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon and his wife have been indicted on perjury, voter fraud and other crimes, the result of a 15-month investigation into allegations the councilman illegally claimed a Panorama City house as his residence, the District Attorney’s Office announced today.
