    Brush Fire On SB 14 Blocks Lane Sunday Afternoon

    The brush fire on the 14 has been knocked down. The fire burned eight acres.

    Firefighters are responding to a fire that has burned a quarter to a half acre on the right side of the 14 just north of Oak Spring Canyon Rd.

    No structures were threatened.

    Traffic Safety Launches Public Awareness Campaign To Prevent Drunk Drivers

    BREAKING NEWS: Hart PONY Baseball Team Wins Mustang World Series

    khts_sportsThe Hart PONY 10-and-under baseball team won the Mustang World Series, beating Puerto Rico, 10-6, in the championship game on Saturday.

    Hart started the Mustang World Series tournament in Irving, Texas, with a 5-4 loss to Joliet, Ill. Hart then rattled off four wins in a row. The team won its remaining two games in pool play.

    Hart beat Chesterfield, Va., 6-4, in the semifinals of the Mustang World Series on Saturday morning.

    August 7 2010: Dodgers Beat Nationals 3-2

    It took 10 innings, but, James Loney's walk off RBI single put the Dodgers over the top for the win. Final score: Los Angeles 3 Washington 2

    Meet Our New Sheriff's Captain

    paul_becker_newYou can meet SCV’s new Sheriff’s Captain, Paul Becker, on August 19 at an open house event from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Hall.

    Captain Becker was named the new Chief of Police in March.  He was offered the position after completing an interview process involving members of the City Council, the City Manager, and various community leaders.

    He brings nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience to our community.

     

    Tee Up For Special Olympians

    On September 13, the Special Olympics Southern California Santa Clarita program is hosting its 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit more than 350 local athletes with intellectual disabilities.  The event, open to all ages and skill levels, will include lunch and a silent auction.

    The Tournament will feature a 4 player scramble; a putting contest; and awards for the top teams, straightest drive and closest to the pin.

    Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., the putting contest starts at 8:30 a.m., and the shotgun start is at 10:00 a.m.

    Meetings Set For City's FirstHOME Program

    khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City of Santa Clarita is inviting local residents to attend informational meetings on its first-time homebuyer program, called FirstHOME. The meetings will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Meetings will also be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
