UPDATED: Teen Arrested On Suspicion Of Starting Haskell Canyon Brush Fire

A 14-year-old Saugus boy admitted to accidentally causing the Haskell Fire which broke out at 1:45 p.m. yesterday.

The teen admitted to setting the wildfire that burned 40 acres and threatened almost 50 homes. He told authorities he was smoking marijuana from a pipe when he dropped a barbeque lighter, causing the dry brush to catch fire.

Senior Citizen Beaten In Road Rage Incident, Suspect Sought

khts_crimeSheriff’s officials are looking for a suspect in an aggravated assault on a 67-year-old man that occurred Sunday night on Bouquet Canyon Road.

According Lt. Brenda Cambra, the victim was driving in the area of Bouquet and Seco Canyon Roads shortly after 9:30 p.m. when he told deputies he “accidentally cut off a vehicle while making a lane change.”

Out Of The Pool And Back To Class

back_to_schoolSanta Clarita residents only have a couple days to finish getting ready for the school year.  The Newhall School District’s school year begins on Tuesday for McGrath Elementary School and Wednesday for the rest of the district.  The Saugus, Sulper Springs, and Castaic School Districts begin on Thursday.

The event was held to pay tribute to people who epitomize the spirit and mission of the American Cancer Society.

Update: Fatality On Train Tracks Under 14 Freeway

On Saturday afternoon, around 1:30 p.m., Newhall resident Marciano Luna, 26, was killed by a northbound train on the tracks passing below the 14 Freeway north of Via Princessa.  Investigators believe he may have been listening to his iPod while sitting on the tracks and did not hear the train.


SCV Golfers Invited To Support Education

Hart Baseball Team Beats Puerto Rico, 10-6, Wins PONY Mustang World Series

khts_sportsThe Hart PONY 10-and-under baseball team won the Mustang World Series in Irving, Texas. Hart beat Puerto Rico, 10-6, in the championship game.

Hart won its third Mustang World Series and its first since 2007. Hart also won the Mustang World Series in 1998.

Hart finished the season with a 32-2 record. After losing its first game in pool play, Hart won four games in a row to win the Mustang World Series.

Brush Fire On SB 14 Blocks Lane Sunday Afternoon


UPDATED 11:02 p.m. Sunday

The brush fire on the 14 has been knocked down. The fire burned eight acres.

Firefighters are responding to a fire that has burned a quarter to a half acre on the right side of the 14 just north of Oak Spring Canyon Rd.

No structures were threatened.
