July 21 2010: Dodgers Win Against Giants 2-0

The Casey Blake got the Dodgers off to a great start with a Home-run in the second inning, then capped off the win in the eighth with an RBI. Chad Billingsly pitched 125 pitches and is the first Dodger this season to pitch a complete game. Planning Commission Postpones School Decisions

khts_citymatters_scvlogoAt Tuesday’s City Planning Commission meeting, members took no formal position on two private school-related issues, instead opting to have the items brought back after further staff evaluation.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church sought approval of a Minor Use Permit to continue operating a K-8 elementary and preschool on church grounds. In past years, Trinity Classical Academy had used the location.

Court Advocates Sought For Domestic Violence Center Training

domesticviolenceA new outreach program of the Domestic Violence Center of the Santa Clarita Valley is being launched in August.

After hearing a Superior Court judge talk about the importance of advocates to stand with and support victims of domestic violence, members of the local Zonta and Soroptimist clubs decided to do something about it.

Garnica Family Fundraiser Brings Out Hundreds From Soccer Community

7_21_Soccer_WD__0076When Matilde Garnica was killed in a traffic accident on July 4, many Santa Clarita residents wondered how they could help her children suddenly left without a mother.  

One of those residents was Joel Govea, Director of Player Development for the Santa Clarita Valley Magic, a local soccer club consisting of 21 teams.  

Local Tea Party Organizes Protest Before Water Board Meeting

khts_waterfaucetLocal residents are invited to protest the proposed increase in sanitation fees with the Tea Party Patriots-SCV at 4:30 on Tuesday, July 27, in front of the Santa Clarita City Hall before the meeting of the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District.

Attendees are requested to bring signs expressing their feelings about the salt tax, as long as the signs stay on topic and are respectful.

COC First Year Experience Program Orientation Registration Begins

The College of the Canyons First Year Experience (FYE) program is holding orientations for incoming freshman who attended one of the FYE Cougar Days during the spring.
 The orientations will be held between July 26 and 29 on the COC Valencia campus.

Valencia Gets First-Round Bye In Valley Invitational Baseball League Playoffs

khts_sportsThe playoff pairings for the Valley Invitational Baseball League are out. Valencia is the No. 2 seed and has a bye in the first round. They await the winner of the Birmingham-Calabasas game and will play on Saturday morning.

West Ranch is the fourth-seeded team and will play at home against Burroughs on Thursday.

Hart also has a home game. They play Granada Hills.

Saugus plays Agoura at home in the first round.
