Narcotics Detectives Make Massive Pot Sweeps In Forests

pothelicopterMore than 11,000 illicit marijuana plants, with a street value of more than $22 million, were located and eradicated on Thursday by a team of detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics and Aero Bureaus, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Forest Service.

The team located and eradicated a total of 11,249 illicit marijuana plants from the Knapp Ranch and Fish Canyon areas of Angeles National Forest, just north of Santa Clarita.

Road Closures For Fourth Of July Events

khts_trafficalertJust as a reminder, Independence Day events will be a bit of patriotic patience on the roads this Sunday, especially those around the parade route in Newhall and the fireworks show in Valencia.

The annual Fourth of July Parade runs north along Main Street (former San Fernando Road) from 5th Street to Lyons Avenue, turns west on Lyons and then north onto Orchard Village Road, ending at 16th Street.

Canyon Country Drug Dealer Behind Bars After Warrant

khts_crimeA Canyon Country man is in custody after a six-month investigation by narcotics detectives.

Justin James Taylor, 24, was arrested at his home in the 18000 block of American Beauty Drive when detectives executed a search warrant. Investigators found 50 marijuana plants, a half-pound of hallucinogenic mushrooms, 100 LSD tabs, marijuana packaged for sale, one shotgun, two handguns and $50,000 cash.

Valencia Jazz Concert Will Honor Fallen Soldiers

american_flagTonight, at the Lexus of Valencia Jazz & Blues Concert Series, a special tribute will be made to honor our military and specifically, the most recent local fallen soldiers from our community: Jake Suter and Ian Gelig.

Some of the top Jazz and Blues recording artists in the world will be performing from 7:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. The concerts will take place on Town Center Drive and McBean Parkway in the heart of Valencia.

This weekend, as we celebrate the 4th of July, we pay a special tribute to those who have and are now serving our country.  This weekend my family is also celebrating my father’s 88th birthday.  Ansel Burton Bratberg served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, flying 42 combat missions in a B-17 over Europe. So, in honor of those who returned (and those who did not), here is his homecoming story.

Canyon Grad Greg Pursley Has New Car For NASCAR West Series Race

Pursley, seventh in the West Series standings, is bringing a new car to Irwindale for the King Taco 200 on Saturday night.

Valencia Toddler Airlifted To Childrens Hospital After Near-Drowning

khts_breakingnewsLos Angeles County Fire airlifted a 2-year old girl to Childrens Hospital this evening after she was found floating in the family spa.

The near-drowning occurred at a residence on Mill Valley Road; family members found the girl floating in the spa and revived her. Sheriff's deputies arrived at the home and the girl was breathing and crying.
