The "Crown Fire" began mid-afternoon, burning north of Sierra Highway at Anthony road. By 9:30 p.m. it had consumed 4,500 acres.

Dodger All-Star Appearances

Jonathan Broxton, Andre Ethier, Rafael Furcal and Hong-Chih Kuo represented the Dodgers at the 2010 All-Star game at Angel Stadium. This is the first time four Dodgers were selected to the All-Star game since five went in 1995. Mike Piazza started at catcher and Hideo Nomo was the National League’s starting pitcher. Raul Mondesi, Jose Offerman and Todd Worrell were National League All-Star reserves.

 

Buffalo, Vancouver Advance To USL W-League Women's Soccer Championship Game

khts_sportsThe Buffalo Flash scored two second-half goals and beat the Atlanta Silverbacks, 3-1, in the semifinals of the United Soccer League W-League playoffs last night at Canyon High School.

Buffalo took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute, but Atlanta tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 36th minute.

SigAlert On Southbound 14, Traffic Slow Due To Fires

khts_trafficalertA SigAlert is in effect on the southbound 14 at the Santa Clara River. An accident between a big rig and trailer has blocked three lanes, including the HOV lane and center divider.

 

Traffic on the 14 is moving slowly due to three fires burning in the area. Soledad Canyon Road is closed at Crown Valley Road and Agua Dulce Canyon Road to allow firefighters to work.

Debate Continues Over Wastewater Rate Issue

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThough discussion on proposed wastewater rate increases have been postponed till spring, there is now talk of the plan backfiring, causing ratepayers to eventually spend more than proposed.

Since the plans to hike rates on wastewater were shot down, the Sanitation District is now exploring the option to borrow money from an existing fund of fees from new sewer hookups.

SCV Outdoor Report: Grubs, Galls and Goldenrod

The other day, my Dad and I were exploring Frog Alley, part of the Vernon Wildlife Area in southeastern Wisconsin.  We spotted some Canada Goldenrod (Solidago canadensis), one of the most common of the 24 different species of Goldenrod in Wisconsin.

Wrench Thrown Into Newhall Habitat For Humanity Project
