Home And Garden Show Showcases New Ideas

The Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show is a new event, showcasing information, demonstrations and great ideas for homeowners.

On Saturday June 26 through Sunday June 27 at the Gateway Promenade on The Old Road, more than 70 businesses will showcase products such as new energy efficient solar panels.

Including information and ideas for homeowners, there will be a special appearance and presentation by Summer Baltzer, star of HGTV’s Design on a Dime.

Brush Fire In Gorman

Los Angeles and Kern County Fire responded to a brush fire on the southbound I-5 just south of Gorman Road.

The fire started when a semi truck caught fire and flames started spreading to nearby brush.

The fire was contained to less than one acre and was quickly put out by the teams of firefighters.

Maytag Recalls Nearly 2 Million Dishwashers

khts_recallsThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Maytag Corp. of Newton, Iowa, announced a voluntary recall of approximately 1.7 million dishwashers due to an electrical failure in the dishwasher's heating element which can post a serious fire hazard. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

LA County Officially Boycotts Arizona

LA_County_SealThe Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 in favor of boycotting the State of Arizona over the state’s contentious immigration law, SB 1070.

Supervisors Michael Antonovich and Don Knabe voted against the motion, which was passed Tuesday night and contends the Arizona law violates:

-         First Amendment right to freedom of speech

Lights Out Due To Vault Fire In Valencia

Power_Lines_SmallValencia residents were without power for a good portion of Tuesday evening after an underground cable failed, resulting in a vault fire.

Edison spokeswoman Ana Frutos-Sanchez said that 3,417 customers were out of power starting around 8:49 p.m., but that the majority of homes were switched over to other circuits quickly.

The vault fire occurred near Avenida Navarre and McBean Parkway.

Friends Remember Fallen Marine

The Stevenson Ranch community was shocked over the weekend as family and friends of Pfc. Jake Suter received the news of his death on Saturday morning. Suter was killed in Afghanistan last week while serving in the Marine Corps.

The Department of Defense announced today the death of Pfc. Jake W. Suter.

Dodger Of The Month: Clayton Kershaw

dodgerstadium_01Clayton Edward Kershaw was born March 19, 1988, in Dallas, Texas. Kershaw attended Highland Park High School , establishing himself as an elite high school pitcher in 2006 when he posted a 13-0 record with an ERA of 0.77, and recorded 139 strikeouts in 64 innings.

McKeon Holds Town Hall Meeting With A Twist

buckmckeonCongressman Howard “Buck” McKeon will hold a Town Hall meeting called “America Speaking Out” from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita City Hall Thursday.
