The Career Center at College of the Canyons is hosting CareerCampSCV at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, in an effort to help residents find a job.

Zonta International Holds Convention In San Antonio

Dianne_Curtis_at_Opening_Ceremonies-1Zonta International’s biannual convention held in San Antonio, Texas attracted more than 1,000 Zontians from around the world. 20 members of the local Zonta delegate are attending the convention and are awaiting the installation of club member Dianne Curtis as President of Zonta International.

Artists To Show Their Work On Bus Shelters

khts_inthecommunityLocal artists have been selected for the City of Santa Clarita’s Public Art Project which will feature their work on transit bus shelters across the Santa Clarita Valley.

The art will be posted in September on ten transit bus shelters to celebrate the Festival of the Arts held in Old Town Newhall.

Hometown Recipes: Plum Frangipane Tart

Summer is officially here and so are a variety of luscious fruits. I have been waiting until ripe plums are plentiful to share this recipe with you. Don’t be intimidated by the name, Frangipane just means an almond flavored filling.

I make this tart every summer and there isn’t a crumb left when all is said and done. Use black plums if you can find them as they have a small pit and are the sweetest of all plums in my opinion.

Three Women Runners From SCV Win USA Outdoor Track And Field Championmships

khts_sportsA trio of women from the Santa Clarita Valley won national titles at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.

Canyon High graduates Alysia Johnson and Lauren Fleshman, and Santa Clarita’s Allyson Felix, were winners at the outdoor track and field national championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Dodgers lost a heart breaker in extra innings to the New York Yankees. Final score: 8-6.

Abandoned Buildings Become Home For Shakespeare

shakespeare-21Just off the Calgrove exit on the 5 Freeway, at The Old Road, is sleepy Towsley Canyon Park. Upon entering through the old wooden gates, there are two abandoned, earthquake-damaged buildings and the remnants of what were once animal stalls. A thick layer of natural debris, leaves and branches cover the ground just opposite the dirt parking lot where those setting off on one of the beautiful trails of the canyon must first enter.

On Sunday, June 27, The Old Town Newhall Association presented a delightful summer car show for the entire family to enjoy. The show featured street rods, Model-T’s, classic and modern-day vehicles. Spectators also enjoyed live music provided by local artist.
