Canyon Country Crime Spree Ends With Three Arrests

khts_crimeThree people in violation of court-imposed parole and probation were arrested Saturday morning for a series of crimes where their own neighbors were victims.

It all started with a phone call to the sheriff from a concerned resident Saturday morning that not only led to the arrest of three individuals, but also resulted in the recovery of drugs and stolen property, and brought closure to two recent car theft victims.

City Council Has Packed Agenda For Regular Meeting

khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City Council will be holding their regular meeting on Tuesday and their agenda will be a full one.

First on the list is a resolution renaming the Golden Valley Bridge the “Deputy Cameron Glover Memorial Bridge” to honor Glover who was killed in an off duty motorcycle collision on April 28.

A study of the wilderness around the Santa Clarita Valley is underway, with federal Interior officials wondering if our exterior should be part of a national park.

Relay For Life Still Accepting Donations

Team Captains and members of this year’s American Cancer Society SCV Relay For Life held in Central Park on May 22-23 have until Tuesday, also known as “Incentive Night”, to turn in additional money and still be able to qualify for incentive prizes starting at the $250 level.


The Little Promotion That Could

In late March the William S. Hart District canceled all eighth-grade promotion ceremonies, but despite the end of a time honored tradition, a number of students recently walked across a stage and received a diploma.

The ceremony, held in the Hyatt’s Grand Ballroom on June 4, was filled with students from five of the Hart District Junior High schools.

During the evening more than 90 students received diplomas, heard speeches from their peers as well as one UCLA Assistant Professor Tyrone Howard, and honored for achievements made throughout the year.

COC's Vogelsang Earns Spot On All America Baseball Team

khts_sportsCollege of the Canyons left fielder Cal Vogelsang earned a spot on the Southern California All-America team. He is the only COC baseball player to make the squad honoring the top players in Southern California.

The West Ranch High graduate was fourth among community college players in the state with 11 home runs. He also hit .380, second best on the COC team, and had 102 total bases, good for ninth in the state.

June 6: The Dodgers Beat Atlanta, 5-4

The Dodgers squeaked past the Braves in the 11th inning to split the series.

Hometown Recipes: Mango Relish

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend.

There were eleven of us at our house. We sat out by the pool, visited, laughed, were sprayed with water from strategically placed cannon balls and barbequed some great food.

I made a mango relish to go with the grilled chicken. Everyone enjoyed it, so I thought you might too.
