Hart High Grad Trevor Bauer Gets Start For UCLA In College World Series

khts_sportsHart High graduate Trevor Bauer will get the start for UCLA in its first game of the College World Series on Saturday.

Bauer, a sophomore at UCLA, is 10-3 with a 3.02 ERA in 16 starts. He leads the Pac-10 with 141 strikeouts and has the third most strikeouts in a single season for UCLA.

He goes up against Florida, the third-seeded team in the College World Series. Florida will send Alex Panteliodis to the mound.

Toy Guns Lead To Real World Experience

columbine35The LA County Sheriffs Department working with the LA County Fire Department conducted real life “shooter on campus” scenarios, at a local junior high on Thursday.

The COBRA unit of the Sheriffs Department lead the training at Arroyo Seco Junior High to give deputies an opportunity to act out what would happen if a shooter took over a campus or a office building.

Noted Plastic Surgeon Dies Suddenly At Home

pechtermugCommunity philanthropist and noted plastic surgeon Edward Pechter died suddenly Wednesday afternoon at his home.

Colleague and long-time friend Ron Singer, whose dental office is in the same building as Pechter’s suite said that he was told Pechter had a heart attack in the late afternoon and was found at home by a close friend. Singer said he had invited Pechter to a concert Wednesday, but that Pechter was planning on dining with his daughter.

Swastikas Painted On Saugus Area Fence

khts_crimeSwastikas and racial epithets were painted on a Saugus resident’s fence Wednesday afternoon, according to sheriff’s officials.

Lt. Mark Hershey said that the owners of the Bobwhite Circle home feel they were targeted because they are black.

No suspects were seen in the area. Because of the nature of this vandalism, it is being handled as a hate crime.
