    Local Teen Honored With Football University Invitation

    footballArroyo Seco seventh grader, Chris Hamilton, has been invited to Football University ’s prestigious “Top Gun Experience.”  Having been recognized as a talented quarterback at the Los Angeles FBU camp in February, he has progressed on to this next step towards being in the National Youth All-American Bowl to be held in January 2011.

    Super Scooper Planes Ordered For Fire Season

    superscooperTo prepare for the 2010 fire season, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich announced that the Los Angeles County Fire Department has renewed a contract to lease two CL-415 SuperScoopers fire-fighting aircraft from the Government of Quebec.

     

    “To ensure that we are prepared for fire season, these vital aircraft have been requested to supplement our Fire Department’s water-dropping helicopters,” said Antonovich.

     

    Domestic Violence Center To Host Golf Tournament

    Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Captain Paul Becker will serve honorary chair of the event, which is set to kick-off with breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by a shotgun start.

    West Ranch Loses First Game In Valley Invitational Baseball League

    khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team suffered its first loss in the Valley Invitational Baseball League, 7-5, to Quartz Hill.

    Down four runs in the seventh inning, West Ranch rallied and scored two runs. Justin Hovis knocked in both runs with a one-out single. With the bases loaded and two outs, Aaron Smirnoff flew out to end the game.

    Josh Heinz drove in two runs, scored one and was 1-for-3 with a double.

    City Gets Ballot Measure To Stop Money Raid

    gavelmoneyAs the finances for the state of California seem to get bleaker, the state has chosen to use revenue from cities to fill the gap, but a new ballot measure aims to put a stop to that practice.

    The League of California Cities needed over 600,000 valid signatures and was able to get over a million to put a proposition on the November ballot to eliminate the states practice of taking local funds to cover budget gaps.

    Radio Relay Week Brings Out The HAMs

    Radio_Relay_6In the hills above Central Park amateur radio operators took part in a 24 hour competition.

    The competition, held from 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 26 to 11:00 a.m. Sunday June 27, pitted amateur radio operators against each other for Amateur Radio Field Day at the Castaic Lake Water Agency above the park.
