First Round Of CIF Baseball, Softball Playoffs Begin Today

khts_sportsThe first round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs begin today with four teams from the Foothill League in action.

Top-seeded Valencia opens at home against Pacifica and Hart hosts Agoura.

Valencia won the Foothill League championship. Hart finished second in league play.

May 19: Dodgers Lose To Padres 10-5

The game started off with both teams chomping at the bit. Each team scoring a run in the first inning and staying close till the 4th inning where Adrian Gonzalez hit a three run Homerun to put the Padres ahead 8-3. The Dodgers struggled to come back but the final score ended up a 10-5 Dodger Loss, thus ending their 9 game winning steak.

Cruise Night To Start On Lyons

steeringwheel_copyTraffic may be a little slow on Lyons Avenue tonight with the inaugural Fly By Knights Cruise Night taking up the lanes.

According to flyers posted on Facebook, car enthusiasts will parade their vehicles down Lyons from the “top” to the end at Main Street at 7 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month starting tonight.

Drivers should meet in the parking lot of Caston’s Appliances (near Peachland Avenue) for the monthly procession.

College of the Canyons Parties With The Stars

SaturnplanetCommunity members are invited to come to the second College of the Canyons Star Party, to explore the night sky in search of Saturn, and other galaxies far far away.

The party is being held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, May 21, at the Carl A. Rasmussen Amphitheater, located on the college’s Canyon Country campus.

Supervisor Sponsors Beach Bus

Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich has once again stepped up to sponsor an inexpensive way to spend a day at the shore, by sponsoring the Summer Beach Shuttle Service from the SCV to the sands of Santa Monica.

The Beach Bus will operate from June 16 to September 6 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Labor Day.

Poll Workers Needed For Upcoming Primary Vote

According to Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Dean Logan, Santa Clarita doesn’t have enough poll workers for the June 8 primary, which could lead to fewer polling places.

Saugus Softball Team Wins CIF Wild-Card Playoff Game

khts_sportsIt was a case of better late than never for the Saugus softball team in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs. Saugus scored six runs in the seventh inning and beat Roosevelt, 7-1, to advance in the playoffs.

Jenna Kelly hit a grand slam in the seventh to give her team a 5-1 lead. Saugus added two more runs in the inning.

Canyon Country's RJ Johnson Wins Second Straight NASCAR Late Model Race At Irwindale

R.J. Johnson won his second NASCAR Late Model race in a row and is starting to pull away in the Late Model standings at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

Johnson finished ahead of Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills, the reigning Late Model champion at Irwindale, and Chris Holloway from Bakersfield on Saturday night. Johnson has yet to finish worse than third in four Late Model races at the track this year.

Paul Strickland Named As Field Representative To Smyth

Strickland as his Santa Clarita Valley Field Representative, replacing Ed Masterson who recently accepted a position as Interim President of the Santa Clarita Chamber of Commerce. Strickland will begin working in Smyth’s district office on June 1.

Strickland said that he has known Smyth for many years and looks forward to working closely with him.
