    Graffiti Task Force Working Hard To Keep City Clean

    khts_citymatters_scvlogoThe City’s Graffiti Task Force continues to conduct a number of outreach efforts to help wipe out graffiti and maintain the beautiful aesthetics of Santa Clarita. In the months of March and April, the Task Force received more than 855 calls and e-notify requests from community members reporting graffiti or gang-related tagging activity in the City.

    Dreamers Challenge Scholarship Competition Opens

    jackoconnellState Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O’Connell, today announced the second annual Dreamers Challenge Scholarship sponsored by The California Museum, Comcast, and the California State Fair.

    High school seniors graduating in 2011 are eligible to compete for the cash prize. One senior from both Northern and Southern California will be awarded $5,000 each, underwritten by Comcast.

    Drought-Tolerant Planting Guide Available For Residents

In an effort to rethink water consumption and reduce water usage in the garden, the Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) has teamed up with the City of Santa Clarita to offer residents a new gardening tool: “SCV Colorful Landscapes for Water Conservation,” a booklet that is now available free of charge.

Antonovich released figures from the Department of Public Social Services showing that in April 2010, $52 million in welfare benefits ($22 million CalWORKs + $30 million in Food Stamps) were issued to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their native-born children in Los Angeles County. This amounts to approximately 23% of all CalWORKs and Food Stamp issuances in the County.

    Cops Take It To The Streets For Special Olympians

    On Tuesday, runners will leave from two locations – the Sheriff’s station on Magic Mountain Parkway and Vanderbilt Way (behind truck scales on I-5) – headed for Heritage Park and a celebration of teamwork.
