Hart Softball Team Beats West Ranch With 7th Inning Home Run

sportshartHart's Lauren Anderson hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give her team a 7-6 win over West Ranch and create a three-way tie for second place in the Foothill League softball standings.

Hart, West Ranch and Saugus are 3-2 in league with two games to play. Valencia is undefeated in league at 5-0.

Hart's Elizabeth Henry homered in the second inning.

Mother's Plea Changes Mood At Council Meeting

It was déjà vu all over again at the Santa Clarita City Council meeting Tuesday night with incumbents Marsha McLean, Laurene Weste and Frank Ferry being sworn in to another term on the dais.

City Clerk Sarah Gorman certified the April 13 election, where Ferry earned the third seat with only 32 votes more than challenger David Gauny, and the three took their oaths of office to a round of kudos from the community.

Letter Carriers To Stamp Out Hunger On May 8

Residents are asked to help the postal workers "Stamp Out Hunger!" by leaving a donation of nonperishable food next to their mailboxes for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry to ensure that no one in our community goes to bed hungry.

Sheriff’s Department Wants Your E-Waste

sheriffbadgeIf your garage is getting too cluttered with old electronics and documents, the SCV Sheriff's will be hosting a "safe and secure" collection event this Saturday, May 1.

The event will be at College of the Canyons parking lot 8, and residents can bring everything from e-waste to old prescriptions drugs and old documents. Up to five boxes of documents will be accepted. They will be shredded by Confidential Data Destruction.

 

Kings Forward Dustin Brown Finalist For NHL Foundation Award

Los Angeles Kings captain/forward Dustin Brown has been named a finalist for the 12th Annual NHL Foundation Player Award, the Kings and the National Hockey League announced today.

 

The award recognizes an NHL player who applies the core values of hockey - commitment, perseverance and teamwork - to enrich the lives of people in his community. This is the second consecutive year Brown has been nominated.

 

CRITICAL MISSING - 17-Year Old Last Seen In Center Pointe Area

A 17-year old male with special needs is reportedly missing and may be on a city bus enroute to his Saugus home, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's department.

The young man is described as a male Hispanic, wearing a red shirt, black pants and black shoes and was last seen in the Center Pointe area. He is being treated for bipolar disorder; he may have recently struck his head and could be bleeding.

Sudden cardiac arrest is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. When this happens, blood stops flowing to the brain and other vital organs, leading to death if not treated within minutes.

Valencia Softball Team Shuts Out Hart

khts_sportsValencia pitcher Sarah Enriquez threw a two-hit shutout and downed Hart, 3-0, in a Foothill League game. Enriquez struck out six, didn't walk anybody and pitched a complete game.

Caitlin Rooney hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Madison Shipman drove in two runs with a single in the third inning for Valencia.
