gatesFormer Los Angeles Police Chief Daryl Gates died Friday morning after a long fight with bladder cancer.

The 83-year old former leader of the nation's second largest police forces was credited with instituting the SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics) team approach to crisis situation and starting the DARE (Drug Awareness Resistance Education) programs to stem the growing number of youth involved with illegal substances.

Saugus Softball Team Rallies In Seventh Inning Against Hart

khts_sportsThe Saugus softball team scored three runs in the seventh inning to beat Hart, 5-2, in the annual Lauren Blair memorial game at the Hart PONY Complex.

Randi Jossett drove in two runs for Saugus with a single in the first inning. She also scored in the three-run seventh for Saugus.

Juli Strange hit a solo home run for Hart in the sixth inning and teammate Tracy Chandless was 2-for-3 and scored a run.
