    Chamber CEO Mankin To Retire

    larrymankinThe Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced the retirement of their day-to-day leader. Larry Mankin, who serves as CEO and President of the business advocacy organization, will retire effective March 31.

    "We extend heartfelt thanks to Larry for his seven years of dedicated service to the chamber and his deep commitment to our business community," said John Shaffery, 2010 Chamber Board of Directors chair. "We wish him great enjoyment in future years."

    March 24: Kings Lose 4-3

    The Kings lost to the Avalanche in a shoot out Wednesday night with a score of 4-3.

    Water, Education Highlight Sacramento Road Trip

Those two specific issues took center stage at the 5th annual Sacramento Road Trip, sponsored by KHTS, Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, the Castaic Lake Water Agency, AT&T and the SCV Chamber of Commerce.

    Deputies Arrest Two After Newhall Crash

    khts_crimeTwo men have been arrested for reportedly breaking into a locked storage cabinet inside a garage in Saugus.

    Alejandro Diaz, 28, of Sylmar, and Luis Muro, 27, of San Fernando, allegedly stole chrome rims and stereo equipment from the garage on the 22000 block of Oakridge Drive, in Saugus.

    A resident called deputies and reported that she caught the men taking the items from the cabinet.

    Bryan Herta Autosport Expanded, Improved for 2010 Firestone Indy Lights Season

    The Firestone Indy Lights season opens in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Sunday and Bryan Herta Autosport will have two cars in the race.

    Drivers Stephan Wilson and Sebastian Saavedra give Bryan Herta Autosport, the team owned by Valencia's Bryan Herta, a new look and a higher expectations. Herta, a Hart High graduate, is entering his second season as an owner in the Indy Lights series. His team expanded from one driver to two.

    Broken Hydrant Produces Show For Motorists

    A motorist caused a bit of a mess Wednesday morning when they struck a fire hydrant on Valley Center Drive.

    The incident sent a 60-100 foot geyser of water into the air.  The tower of water could be seen over the buildings in the area.

    Santa Clarita Water Division sent workers to the scene to shut off the water.

    The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), in cooperation with Infantino LLC, of San Diego, Calif. have announced a free replacement program for the Infantino "SlingRider" and "Wendy Bellissimo" infant slings.

    West Ranch Boys Golf Team Wins Foothill League Opener

    khts_sportsThe West Ranch boys golf team won the first Foothill League match of the year by 25 strokes, but it was Valencia's Joanthan Chang who posted the low round of the day at Valencia Country Club.

    Chang shot an even-par 72 for Valencia, who finished second. West Ranch shot 401 as a team, led by C.J. Espino's 3-over par 75. Valencia was second with a team score of 426, followed by Saugus in third with a 431.

     

    Hart District Cuts Promotion Ceremony

    khts_schools_chalkboardIn an effort to meet the demands of an ever-shrinking budget, the Hart District is making a dramatic change to how their eighth-graders will promote to high school.

    The district has announced the cancellation of junior high promotion ceremonies for all eighth-grade classes in our valley affecting more than 3,500 students.

    The move is also part of a new policy that the district is trying to push.

    Hometown Recipes: Asparagus And Onion Quiche

    Every once in a while, usually on a sunny Sunday morning, I will make a vegetable quiche for breakfast. This quiche is especially good as it is made with asparagus and sweet brown onions. I will sometimes add crumbled bacon or thinly sliced chicken sausage. We have served this quiche on Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day. It is wonderful as a main dish with a salad or served as an appetizer.
