    McKeon Will Seek Re-Election In 2010

    buckmckeonHoward P. "Buck" McKeon will officially seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2010. McKeon announced that he filed his re-election paperwork with the Los Angeles County Registrar Recorders office, March 3.

    Citing an eagerness to continue serving and working with his constituents in Santa Clarita, Victorville, the Antelope Valley and beyond, McKeon says there is much to do in Washington.

    Filming On The Rise In SCV

The City has reported that the economic benefit stemming from local filming was up 14 percent in 2009 compared to 2008. The total impact of location filming reportedly surpassed $22 million last year.

    Results From Santa Clarita's Public Opinion Poll Released

    Study aims to gauge how we feel about shopping, public safety and other big issues.

    The city of Santa Clarita has wrapped up their latest public opinion poll, the first such study since 2006 to be conducted.

    Meyer Marketing Intelligence, Inc. ran the study, which contacted 408 local residents by phone and asked a series of predetermined questions. The survey was only opened to those who lived within the City limits, and therefore excluded Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, Westridge and Tesoro residents.

     

    Suspect Arrested After Breaking Into Car

    Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man suspected of stealing items from a woman's car. The incident occurred Wednesday morning on Newhouse Street in Canyon Country, near Whites Canyon Road.

     

    Senator Boxer Draws A Line In The Sand

    barbaraboxerU.S. Senator Barbra Boxer has introduced legislation aimed at stopping the 20-year-old mining dispute between the City of Santa Clarita and CEMEX USA.

    That mining dispute is over a contract granted to CEMEX by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), to extract 56 million tons of sand and gravel from a site in Soledad Canyon.

    SCV Media Teams Up For City Council Debate

    On Thursday, March 11, KHTS AM-1220 will join The Signal and SCVTV to present two City Council Candidate debates. The debates will occur live at City Council chambers at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

    The programs will then be aired on KHTS AM-1220 on March 13 at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., and SCVTV will run the complete video at selected dates leading up to the election. Subsequent news stories regarding the debates will be run in The Signal and on hometownstation.com.

    Local Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

    An Army Paratrooper from Stevenson Ranch was killed in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

    Spc. Ian Gelig, 25, died when his patrol unit was hit by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in Kandahar, Afghanistan, according to information from the Department of Defense.
