Emergency Shelter Needs One Last Push

khts_givingbackThe demand to keep up with the needs of our local homeless population has placed a significant dent in the budget of the SCV Emergency Winter Shelter.

The Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation (SCCDC) has begun to seek the help of our local faith congregations and the community at large to help close an impending budget deficit of $10,000 to $15,000 by the shelter's closing date on March 16.

$12.5 Million Awarded To Victim Of Sexual Assault In Santa Clarita

After a five-week trial, a Los Angeles Superior Court jury awarded 94 year-old Sophie Schwartz $6 million in general damages and $6.5 million in punitive damages following a 2007 sexual assault at a senior living facility in Santa Clarita.

Schwartz, who suffers from dementia, was sexually assaulted in her room by an illegal immigrant named Jose Vasquez, who was employed by Oakdale Heights Management Corporation. Both Vasquez and Oakdale Heights were listed as defendants in the case.

CHP Will Conduct DUI Checkpoint Tonight

altDrinking and driving are a deadly combination and the CHP wants to create awareness to deter the public from driving under the influence.

The CHP Newhall Area Office will be conducting a DUI checkpoint somewhere in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County from Friday 8 p.m. until Saturday 2:30 a.m.

The goal of the DUI checkpoints is to create awareness among the motoring public and to deter people from driving under the influence.

The first time I saw the Norwegian Olympic Curling Team's pants, I thought, "there must be something wrong with our TV".  But it wasn't the TV - it was the pants.  "They can't be serious", I thought.  Not even Johnny Weir would wear that on the ice.  But they were serious, and their garish yet whimisical team uniforms captured the attention of the world.

The Master's College Men's Basketball Team Bounced From GSAC Tournament

sportslocalThe Master's College men's basketball team made an early exit in the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament. The Master's College lost to Azusa Pacific, 80-56. After beating Azusa Pacific, the 15th -ranked team in the NAIA, twice during the regular season, The Master's College struggled in the third meeting between the two teams.

A Look At Camelback Ranch

Last season the Dodgers finally completed their move to the West Coast. After 51 years of playing in Los Angeles - yet still holding spring training in Vero Beach, Florida - the Dodgers have moved their spring training site to Glendale, Arizona.

Camelback Ranch is the facility the Dodgers now share with the Chicago White Sox, who made the much shorter move from Tucson, Arizona. The new facility has been in operation one full year, and what a year it was.

Kings Lose To The Predators 4-2

Newhall Land recently released their newest marketing campaign aimed at increasing residency in Valencia.

The new campaign, launched in mid February, is called Awesometown.  It has been featured in print ads, billboards, bus wraps and is the central theme of the Valencia website.
