    Fatal Motorcycle Accident On Bouquet Canyon Road

    Late Sunday morning, a Northridge man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle while driving on Bouquet Canyon Road south of the Old Falls campground. The accident occurred at 10:00 a.m.

    According to the California Highway Patrol, 47 year-old Martin Simon was driving his 2006 Suzuki motorcycle "at a high rate of speed" when he lost control coming out of a turn. He was ejected from the motorcycle and slid along the roadway.

    A motorist driving a car the opposite direction was unable to avoid Simon, and ran over the lower half of his body.

    Basic Food Flavors, Inc. ("Basic") has issued a recall for all Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein ("HVP") dry powder manufactured by Basic Food Flavors on or after September 17, 2009, due to a positive test result for Salmonella in a production lot. FDA records indicate that some of the HVP being recalled by Basic Food Flavors was used as an ingredient in HERB-OX® items.

    The Valencia boys went 5-0 in the 26th annual California High School Tennis Classic at Buchanan High School in Clovis, taking down some of the top teams in the state.

    With the Oscars coming up, movie lovers will get see their favorite movies and actors honored, but there will be another awards event honoring Hollywood's younger talent.

    Merit Leighton, a 7-year-old actress , and her sister Marlowe Peyton a 5-year-old actress and singer from Valencia will be honored with a C.A.R.E. (Child Actor Recognition Event) Award during a red-carpet ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood.

    Jacqulyn O'Meara Petersen was honored at the event and was introduced by the 2009 California Mother of the Year, Myrna Condie.

    Condie noted she has had the privilege of knowing Jacquie since she and her husband, Harold, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley in 2001.
