    City Council Candidate Debate This Week

    news_politicsOn Thursday, March 11, candidates for Santa Clarita City Council will be under one roof for a debate sponsored by local media outlets KHTS AM-1220, The Signal and SCVTV.

    The debate will begin at 6:00 p.m in City Council chambers located at City Hall. The public is invited to attend the debate to get a better understanding of the diverse field of candidates.

    Arts In Santa Clarita Will Benefit From Kennedy Center Teaching

    cocJust two years after unveiling its K-12 Arts Education Outreach Program, the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) has been invited to attend a national education event.

    The PAC, located at College of the Canyons has been invited to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to participate in the prestigious Partners In Education Institute, May 5-8, in Washington, D.C.

    City Council Votes To Support Select Immigration Laws

    The Santa Clarita City Council has made a symbolic move to address illegal immigration in the Unites States. Since the issue is handled at the federal level, Council members voted Tuesday night on whether or not to support various bills before the U.S. House of Representatives.

    Another School Wins Big With Screamin Coupons

    The school generated the most email sign-ups for Screamin Coupons Deal of the Day, which provides certificates to local businesses at a discount price.

    Seminar Looks At Owning A Home After A Divorce

    Harvard-trained Lawyer, Kelly Lise Murray, co-author of Divorce This House - Not Just your Spouse!, is an expert on the pitfalls of keeping a home after a divorce. She will be detailing hidden problems like extra tax liability, damaged credit, foreclosure, bankruptcy and more at a free lecture at the Embassy Suites in Valencia on Thursday, March 11 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

    Murray will detail the five things she says everyone must know before completing a divorce property settlement.

    Santa Clarita Design Firm Nabs Three Addy Awards

    Watters Edge Design and its founder Scott Watters won the best advertising award for a vehicle wrap, a brochure, and a corporate identity pack, bringing home three of the prized awards.

    Saugus Softball Team Wins Season Opener

    sportslocalThe Saugus softball team beat Stockdale of Bakersfield, 6-4, to win its season opener.

    Jenna Kelly and Jackie Shimamoto each homered for Saugus. Kelly hit a solo shot and drove in two runs in the game. Shimamoto hit a three-run home run to give her team a 6-2 lead.

     

    In other games, Hart beat Oak Park, 7-3. Paxton Provost drove in three runs with a pinch-hit triple.

    Winds Blast Santa Clarita

    wind1While the wet weather has moved out for the time being, the wind has increased, and brought with it cold temperatures.

    The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a High Wind Advisory for our valley, but as the day progresses the winds are expected to increase.

    Gusts could reach into the 60 mile-an-hour range late this afternoon, with the strongest gusts hitting the I-5 corridor and the Antelope Valley.

    Local Hockey Player Signs With NHL Team

    harperNHL_copyA local hockey player is making the jump to the big leagues, signing with a professional NHL team.

    The Everett Silvertips, a major junior hockey league within the Western Hockey League, announced that Forward Shane Harper has signed an agreement to play with the Philadelphia Flyers.

    Harper, 20, grew up in Valencia and has been playing with the Silvertips for five years.
