    The City of Santa Clarita invites residents to bring their unwanted household and electronic waste to the Los Angeles County Household Hazardous Waste /E-Waste Round-Up on Saturday, April 10, 2010. The free community event will be held at the College of the Canyons' Upper South Parking Lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

     

    Dodgers Roster Starting To Take Shape

    Only a few days remain before the start of a new season.

     

    As Dodger fans in Santa Clarita and beyond eagerly await Monday's first Dodger game of the 2010 season, some of the team's players may be just as anxious to learn whether or not they will be on the final roster.

    Most recently the Dodgers shed pitcher Eric Stults, who will play in Japan, and backup outfielder Jason Repko.

    New Fire Station Locations

    Several new fire stations are planned in Santa Clarita, and with recent County approval for soil and geotechnical testing, the new stations have inched closer to becoming a reality. Read more on this testing in yesterday's article.

    Before delving into the new stations, here's a little background information about how the LA County Fire Department works in Santa Clarita.

    COC Softball Team Sweeps Santa Monica College

    khts_sports1The College of the Canyons softball team swept a doubleheader against Santa Monica College with a pair of shutouts.
    COC won the first game, 14-0, and won the second game, 16-0.

    Melissa Herndon hit two home runs and drove in seven runs in both games for COC. In the first game, she hit a home run and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Ruby Herrera hit a home run and drove in four runs.

    Retail Market Growing Fast In Santa Clarita

    khts_businessnews3The 2010 edition of the California Retail Survey is out, and it lists Santa Clarita among the top 20 fastest growing retail markets in the state.

    The designation was made after an analysis of annual retail data from 2003-2008. During that five-year span, Santa Clarita experienced an average retail sales growth of 2.3%.

    Santa Clarita Remembers Ed Redd

    One of Santa Clarita's greatest advocates was memorialized at Eternal Valley on Sunday, March 28, nearly two weeks after his death. Redd had been a Parks Commissioner for the city of Santa Clarita, a champion for our local youth and proud parent.

    Cross Valley Connector: Open For Business

    crossvalleyopen05With the first major business day after the opening of the Cross Valley Connector behind us, it seems as though the master plan for the City is taking a big step forward.

    The final piece to the bridge connecting Newhall Ranch Road and Golden Valley Road was in place, and on Saturday March 27, more than 300 people turned out for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

    Nickelodeon Star Comes To SCV

    The local chapter of Jack and Jill of America, inc is hosting a fundraising event on Wednesday.

    The event, held at Scooters Jungle, is for both children and adults and it will benefit Jack and Jill Rebuilds America Project, Penny Lane centers, and Jack and Jill of America Foundation.

    In addition to having the use of the bouncers, there will also be a balloon artist, a video game truck and food.

    Keke Palmer, star of Nickelodeon's show "True jackson VP", will also be at the event.
