Creative Guild To Host Art Event March 14

Late night incident keeps firefighters busy at local apartment complex.

The clubhouse at the Promenade Apartments was destroyed Saturday night when a wall near a gas fire pit inside the structure burst into flames.

Fire officials reported that the call came in at 10:27 p.m., sending six stations and 40 firefighters to the scene to fight the fire.

Women Startled By Burglars in Canyon Country Apartment

khts_crimeTwo Canyon Country women were surprised by burglars who broke into their apartment near Hideaway Street and threatened them with bodily harm.

According to Lt. Robert Lewis, the suspects, described only as two male Hispanics, told the women to get out of the room after they had threatened them (no weapons were seen) and the two, a mother and daughter, were able to conceal a phone from the men and hide in a bathroom.

 

 

Late Nite Catechism To Play OLPH

The latest installment of the popular "Late Nite Catechism" series by Maripat Donovan and Vicki  Quade will be featured for one night only at 8 p.m. Friday, February 26, inside Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

Organizations Suit Up For Project Prom

Program hopes to help disadvantaged kids make prom a reality.

When it comes time for high school prom, kids in Santa Clarita spend a great deal of time picking out their tuxedo or dress, ordering flowers and blocking out hours of time at the beauty salon. Prom is billed as one of the most memorable nights of the high school experience, although for some, the high cost of the event makes it a memory they'll never have. Cue the good nature of Santa Clarita...

Art Party At Tesoro A Success

artpartyoneDespite a rainy afternoon, spirits were high at the Art Party at Tesoro Adobe Historic Park on February 6. The gathering featured works by local artists and was sponsored by the Santa Clarita Artists Association.

Smyth Named Legislator Of Year By Domestic Violence Coalition

The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence has named Assemblyman Cameron Smyth as Legislator of the Year for 2009.  The award was given in recognition of Smyth's efforts to restore funding to domestic violence programs throughout the state after the Governor's line-item veto last year.

 

COC Art Gallery Contemplates 'Life After Life'

The College of the Canyons Art Gallery opens the spring season February 16.

In a collaborative effort with the COC English department, this show combines the work of 19 professional visual artists along with the work of six of the college's English department faculty members.

The concept for the exhibition was to ask the artists and writers to submit a work, or works, that in some way represent a "contemplation of the unknown," or more bluntly, death.

February 13th: Kings Over Avalanche 3-0

Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings welcomed Colorado to the Staples and shutout the Avalanche 3 to 0.
