Jazz Lives In Santa Clarita

Annual R.K. Downs Jazz Festival returns at COC

This weekend, the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC) at College of the Canyons will host more than 200 local musicians during the R.K. Downs Invitational Jazz Festival —providing the ideal venue for local music fans to experience ‘all that jazz.’

After a one-year hiatus in 2009, the annual R.K. Downs Invitational Jazz Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, February 27, on the PAC main stage.

Bryan Herta Autosport Will Enter Indianapolis 500

Bryan Herta Autosport, owned in part by Valencia resident and Hart High graduate Bryan Herta, will enter this year's Indianapolis 500 with driver Sebastian Saavedra.

Saavedra will drive for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Firestone Indy Lights Series in 2010. Saavedra is one of two drivers who will compete in the Indy Lights series for the team. Stefan Wilson, the yonger brother of IndyCar Series driver Justin WIlson, is the other driver for Bryan Herta Autosport.

Former Ms. America To Speak About Safety Of Cosmetics

Saugus Beats Yucaipia In CIF Soccer Playoffs

sportslocalThe Saugus girls soccer team is alive and playing well in the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.

Hart and Valencia were knocked out of the playoffs after losing on penalty kicks.

Saugus, the reigning Division II champs, beat Yucaipa, 5-2, getting all its goals from five different players. Emily Relles, Kaitlyn Hamersky, Brittanie Sakajian, Nicole Penick and Lauren Cech scored for Saugus in the team's second-round playoff game.

Hart High Grad Prepares For Pac-10 Swim Championships

Hart High graduate Rachel Krager is back in Southern California for the Pac-10 women's swimming championships at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach.

The sophomore at Washington State is competing in three events in the Pac-10 championships. Her first race is today in the 500 freestyle.



"Last year in the 500, that's what really kicked it off for me," Krager said. "I feel real good about it this meet."
