Senator Strickland Teams Up To Go Green

Small Businesses Get Boost From Redevelopment Agency

The Newhall Redevelopment Small Business Grant program awarded each business $5,000 as part of the city's 21 Point Business Plan for Progress.

Northpark Kindergarten Teacher Gets Cash Surprise

North Park Elementary School kindergarten teacher Brynn Rooney was surprised this afternoon when she received a $250 third-place sweepstakes prize from the Horace Mann Companies.


The kindergarten teacher entered the "Educators Run Away With $65K" sweepstakes that was aimed to benefit educators and charities that support them. Rooney was also allowed to designate a not-for-profit education-related organization that will receive an additional $250 donation to use at their discretion.


Canyon Girls Soccer Team Moves Into First Place In Foothill League

sportscanyonThe Canyon girls soccer team has emerged in first place in the Foothill League standings after a 1-0 win over Valencia. Marina Gonzalez scored the lone goal in the 55th minute of the game.

The Hart girls soccer team got goals from Kelli Goss and Kelsey Steck in a 2-1 win over Saugus. Hart and Saugus are tied for second place in the Foothill League standings.

Would-Be Carjacker Gets Business End Of Bat


A family out for fast food Saturday night was nearly taken for a wild ride by a would-be carjacker whose attempts were thwarted by a frightened but angry father.

According to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's station, the victims were at McDonald's on Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country when the patriarch was approached by an 18-year old male Hispanic who demanded the car.


Sierra Vista Jumps For Guinness World Record

At 9:00 this morning Sierra Vista Middle School's Physical Education department joined approximately 80,000 people in attempting to break a Guinness World Record. With the help of the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (CAHPERD), Sierra Vista and thousands of other Californians were trying to get the most people jumping rope at the same time. This record was previously held by Australia, with 59,000 people.

Besides Sierra Vista, schools all across California participated in the activity.
