Last Saturday Andrew Aubrey sat upon a mountain of shoes, 4,359 pairs to be exact. But why and how and did Andrew accumulate such a collection? What did he plan to do with this absurd amount of footwear?

The idea stemmed from Aubrey wanting to become an Eagle Scout. The final step of which is to complete a project that demonstrates leadership and helps an institution other than the Boy Scouts of America.

WorkSource Moves To COC University Center

newworksourceThe Santa Clarita WorkSource Center is moving to a new location and will open on Tuesday, February 16 at its new location in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center at College of the Canyons.  The WorkSource Center will continue to serve clients at its current location at 20655 Soledad Canyon until that date.


City's Karate Team Brings Back Winnings From Vegas

karatekicksFourteen members of the Newhall Community Center's karate team came home with a little more hardware in their suitcases - awards from a national competition in Las Vegas.

The martial artists, all belonging to the City of Santa Clarita's Newhall Community Center karate team, competed at the 2010 IMAC USA Martial Arts Competition on Jan. 23, along with more than 1,500 participants from the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Golden Valley's Trevor Wiseman scored 27 in his team's 66-56 win over Saugus.

Golden Valley has a one-game lead over Valencia in the Foothill League standings. The two teams meet on Friday night.


Possible Attempted Suicide Temporarily Closes 210 Freeway

Teens Learn First-Hand About Careers In Groundhog Event

groundhogLeahNearly 100 high school students had a good excuse for missing their morning at school Tuesday morning, as they participated in the 13th annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Day.

The teens spread across the valley, from Boston Scientific to Sweetwater Veterinary Clinic, rode with Newhall County Water District workers and stood in surgical suites at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
