Hometown Recipes: Orange Espresso Chocolate Puddings

    By Erin Walgamuth

This recipe is for all of you chocolate lovers out there, which would include me! These delicious, velvety, elegant and easy desserts are yummy enough to serve to company. They are a cross between a French chocolate custard and chocolate pudding. If you don't care for the taste of oranges, don't add the zest. The same goes for the espresso, don't add it if you don't care for the taste.

The flavor will be at its best if made the day before you wish to serve them, but they are great the day of as well.

City Again Seeks Support For Mining Bill

Mayor requests support for CEMEX compromise

The City of Santa Clarita is hoping local residents will endorse the long-awaited Soledad Canyon Conservation and Management Act (H.R. 4332).

When the government granted mining rights to CEMEX USA to mine in Soledad Canyon in 1990, local citizens were concerned. Unhappy with the prospect of the destruction of the wilderness range and the invasion of numerous mining trucks, the city searched for a solution to keep the land untouched.

Shutter Island: You'd Have To Be Crazy Not To Go

    shutterisland_1

One of my favorite things in film is the sacred and underrated occurrence of the actor/director bromance. This is seen with Depp/Burton, Rogen/Apatow, Hanks/Spielberg, Cruise/Spielberg, Anderson/Seymour Hoffman, Nicholson/Brooks, and Scorsese/DeNiro etc. Well, we have a new one (just so you know you need at least four collaborations for it to be a bromance), with Scorsese/DiCaprio.

The rain started coming down Friday night, and deluged the Santa Clarita Valley into Saturday.

The high volume of water flooded some rural streets like Placerita Canyon Road, and left sheets of water running across driveways and intersections.

    Chamber Hosts Monthly Membership Luncheon

The program for the March Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce luncheon will feature many of the candidates who will be running for three open seats on the City of Santa Clarita City Council.

Seven of the 11 candidates have confirmed their attendance and participation for the luncheon.
Each candidate will be given two minutes to share their political vision and work program at the luncheon. Following the opening remarks by the candidates, luncheon attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions to the participating council candidates.

Drugs In Our Schools: The Silent War

khts_specialreport2While statistics across the nation show teen drug use stalling, neither rising nor falling significantly in the past year, a recent poll shows that schools in Santa Clarita fall below national averages.

In a study conducted by the William S. Hart District, seventh, ninth and eleventh graders were asked a series of questions ranging from drug and alcohol use to cigarette smoking.
