Some people collect coins or stamps, my mother collected empty Maxwell House Instant Coffee jars.  These were just the right size for a family-size meal of vegetable stew, part of her summertime ritual of "putting food by" for the winter.

Shelled Hazelnuts Due To Possible Salmonella Contamination

Willamette Shelling of Newberg, OR is recalling 114,350 lbs of Shelled Hazelnuts, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Saugus Girls Soccer Team Shuts Out Glendora

sportslocalThe Saugus girls soccer team, the reigning CIF Southern Section Division II champions, shut out Glendora, 3-0, yesterday. Jamie Molacek scored twice and Brittanie Sakajian added another goal for Saugus. Kelly Parker earned the shutout in goal.

The Canyon girls blanked Ventura, 4-0. Malaya Carbrera scored two goals and Devon Goff had three assists for Canyon.


Saugus and Canyon begin play in the Buena tournament today.

Decemeber 17th: Kings Fall To Calgary 2-1

Thursday, the Kings wrapped up their Canadian road trip in Calgary with a game against the Flames. The kings lost to Calgary. The final score
was 2 to 1.


The Kings will have some time off and will faceoff against Phoenix on December 26th. You can catch the game LIVE on AM-1220 KHTS beginning
at 5:30 PM.

Save A Stray For The Holidays Saturday In Castaic

shelterdogIn an effort to help homeless pets this holiday season, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) will hold seven simultaneous adoption events on Saturday, December 19, including one at the Castaic Shelter on Charlie Canyon Road.

Sponsored by Found Animals Foundation, "Save-A-Stray for the Holidays," will be held at each of the six County animal shelters as well as the new AV Pet Stop, making this a true Los Angeles County-encompassing event.

Christmas is looking brighter for local families in need, as online services provider MIS Sciences has made a $1,500 donation to the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Station's holiday toy drive. For the past 20 years, the Sheriff's Station has collected toys for the holidays from the local community and distributed them to the less-fortunate.


COC Offensive Lineman Commits To Syracuse

Louiszell Alexander is headed to Syracuse. The 6-foo-5, 315 pound, offensive lineman committed to play for Syracuse, turning down offers from UCLA, Oregon and Washington.
