Violent Crime Slightly Up In SCV, Says FBI

khts_crimeAccording to the FBI, violent crime is on the upswing in the Santa Clarita Valley in the first six months of 2009, compared to the same period in 2008.

The Uniform Crime Reports, issued annually by the agency, show that in early 2009, there was one murder, 10 rapes, 68 robberies and 132 aggravated assaults, compared to no murders, nine rapes, 66 robberies and 98 aggravated assaults reported in early 2008.

Wind, Icy Weather Expected To Hit Tuesday Night

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind alert for the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys, with cooler temperatures and snow levels dropping beginning Tuesday night.

A cold and vigorous low pressure system is expected to go southward across California and Nevada Tuesday with limited moisture. Snow levels are expected to lower rapidly on Tueday, falling to betwtee 4,000 and 5,000 feet, with the exception of Northern slopes, which could see snow around 3,000 feet.


Small Business Center Wins Highest Honors

The Small Business Development Center hosted by College of the Canyons was recently honored with three 'highest achievement' awards at the annual Los Angeles Regional SBDC Award and Recognition Dinner - including the organization's prestigious 'Overall Highest Performer' award.

The awards ceremony, which was sponsored by the SBDC Lead Center at Long Beach City College and attended by members of the Los Angeles District Small Business Administration, recognized four categories of performance among the network of seven Southern California area SBDC locations.

City Welcomes Women's Soccer Team

In addition, Whole Foods has joined the recall to protect customer safety.

Hart Girls Soccer Team Advances To Buena Tournament Final

sportshartThe Hart girls soccer team advanced to the final of the Buena Tournament beating Saugus on penalty kicks in a game that was part revenge, part resurrection.

Hart and Saugus played to a scoreless tie in the semifinals of the tournament. Katie Trevino and Brittani Reddick converted their penalty kicks and Saugus failed on four attempts. Hart (6-0-2) ran its unbeaten streak to eight games and will play Buena today in the championship game.


Three Teens Critically Injured In Soledad Crash

White Christmas Takes The Stage At Cabrillo Music Theatre

Cabrillo Music Theatre will be presenting Irving Berlin's White Christmas starting December 26th in Thousand Oaks. The classic Bing Crosby-Danny Kaye movie comes to life on the stage, with its score enhanced by Irving Berlin classics, and stars David Engel, Randy Rogel, Jennifer Mathews and Cassie Silva.

Cabrillo's production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas, created exclusively for the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, Bank of America Performing Arts Center, will open on Saturday, December 26th, 2009 and run for seven performances, through Tuesday, December 29th.
