Gang Member Arrested For Firearm Faces Deportation Again


A 19-year old Castaic gang member is behind bars facing a second deportation after being questioned by deputies in Canyon Country on Tuesday.

Jorge Cervantes was arrested after deputies stopped him midday near Whites Canyon Road and Soledad Canyon Road and found a fully-loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in his waistband.

The Master's College Men's Soccer Team Saved By Silva In Second Half

sportslocalThe Master's College men's soccer team needed some second-half heroics to advance in the NAIA national championship soccer tournament.

Marcelo Silva scored two goals in the final 15 minutes and led his team to a 3-1 win over Notre Dame of Ohio in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Fresno.


The Master's College will play Rio Grande of Ohio in the semifinals of the NAIA tournament on Friday.

A tiny dirt parking lot off Golden Valley Road was packed Monday night, as community members attended an open house at the Santa Clarita Valley Emergency Shelter. The event, intended to help raise awareness of the shelter and the needs it fills, included dinner and tours of the facility.

Local Parent Appointed To Newhall School Board

Appointment process fills seat vacated my J. Michael McGrath.

The Newhall School District Governing Board will be whole when sworn in December 8th. The November election inadvertently left the Board one seat short when residents reelected J. Michael McGrath despite the fact that he dropped out of the race late into the election.

Phil Ellis and Christy Smith won their respective seats on the board, however McGrath resigned his seat and the current board was charged with filling the vacancy by an appointment process.

Annual Sheriff's Toy Drive Kicks Off Tomorrow

altIf you're looking to give back during the holiday season, the annual Santa Clarita Sheriff's Toy Drive provides the perfect outlet. The event begins tomorrow and will run from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Power Honda Valencia.

Thursday's launch will also feature choral and orchestral pieces performed by local schools. SCV residents are encouraged to come with friends and family, drop off a toy, and enjoy the festivities.
