An out-of-the-box idea is having big success.

Jenny Dermody's Bowman High School math students have a unique way of measuring their classroom success: stuffed animals.

The once immensely popular beanie babies and other stuffed animals have become bargain items at garage sales, and Dermody has begun to purchase a collection in order to help motivate her students.

Kings Forward Named To Slovakian Olympic Team

michalhandzusMichal Handzus will play hockey on the world stage.

Los Angeles Kings forward Michal Handzus has been selected for the roster for his native Slovakia for the men's ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.

32 year-old Handzus had been selected to participate in the Olympics twice - in 2006 (he did not play) and 2002 (2 games, one goal).

In consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., is expanding its voluntary recall to include all available product lots of TYLENOL® Arthritis Pain Caplet 100 count bottles, with the distinctive red EZ-OPEN CAP  (Full list of lot numbers provided below).

Filming Alters Traffic On Rockwell Canyon Road


A commercial being filmed on Rockwell Canyon Rd. will be altering traffic between Valencia Blvd and McBean Parkway until 9:00 p.m. tonight.

The production has not closed Rockwell Canyon Rd., however on-scene deputies are controlling traffic around the filming. This means that through traffic may be limited at times.

The production wraps tonight and will not impact traffic further.

Hart Girls Soccer Team Shuts Out Cleveland In Hart Tournament

sportshartThe Hart girls soccer team shut out Cleveland, 4-0, and tied Paraclete, 1-1, on the first day of the Hart tournament. Katie Trevino scored two goals in the game against Cleveland and scored the lone goal in the game against Paraclete.

Hart's Megan Indermill and Kelli Goss also scored in the game against Cleveland.


The Hart tournament continues today with Hart playing Louisville.

December 28th: Kings Lose 4-3

Monday, the Kings returned to the Staples Center to face the Minnesota Wild. The Kings and Wild tied it up 3-3 in the 3rd period then moments later, Minnesota scored the game winning goal. The final score was 4 to 3.


Wednesday, the Kings travel to Calgary to play the Flames. Hear that game LIVE on AM-1220 KHTS beginning at 6PM.

CHP Makes More DUI Arrests Over Christmas Weekend

khts_crime_chpThe California Highway Patrol said that drivers were mostly nice over the holiday weekend, but some folks were definitely naughty behind the wheel.

The good news on our freeways and highways is that there were no traffic deaths in the Newhall area over the Christmas holiday weekend.


The bad news - there were 35 driving under the influence arrests made, compared to 23 last year.

2009 - The Year In Sports

To tell you this was a bit of a disappointing year would be an understatement. Just as teams would get up, something seemed to knock them down. It just felt like nobody could get over the hump.
